Malt whisky recommendations under £30

Postby kitkatkoo » Sun Nov 12, 2006 3:34 pm

Hello, I'm looking to buy a malt whisky for a present for somebody who loves the stuff. Can anybody recommened a malt under £30?
My dad swore by Lagavulin and Laphroaig but Lagavulin is a bit pricey. I've heard that the Laphroaig Quater cask is good and on offer at Tesco too. I've also heard that Ardbeg is also good. Bargain booze have Glenlivet 12 year on offer for £18.99, is this any good?
Many thanks :)

I assume it's Islay whiskies your dad prefers?

If so, then the Ardbeg and Laphroiag QC would be good choices. For something a bit different, although still smokey may I suggest Talisker 10yo. Has a peppery smokey taste. Around the £20 in most supermarkets.

It might be worth checking in the latter pages of this thread for bargains
