YOU'RE fed up with winter?

This is the view out my front door. That white stuff is the snow that your daughter wishes I would send over. By the by, the marks in the snow on the hill are the trails that the herd of deer have left as they browse on the cedar trees. Them aren't people tracks, we use the road in front. As do the snowmobiles.

I'll be back over in May though the exact dates and times haven't been decided yet, but I always make it a point to visit Edinburgh for at least for one day.

Nice picture, thanks.

I just thinking, are they called 'stills' because they never move?

Willie when I first read you post I thought you'd said.

I think they occasionally move when people caress them when naked.

I thought how does Willie know that.

I can only confirm that you both look like people I'd enjoy dramming with. Your big grins at the sight of the drams are a definite plus in your favour. Lucky devils!

I was deleting photos that were taken earlier this year but decided to keep this one even though it's a bit of a mess.

What two Ben Nevis's I thought, looking at the two peaks then stupidly realised that it was the peak and distillery you were refering to.

Islands on Lake of the Woods.jpg

Just returned from a walk on Lake of the Woods. Yes, on the lake. You can see the snowmobile trails running off towards the West and just on the left corner of the photo is the ice road that runs down the lake for over 20 miles.
Ice road Lake of the Woods.jpg

This is the said ice road with a fair amount of vehicular traffic. I walked the dog, Dazy, around to an nearby Island, Coney Island and then along this trail,
Coney Island Trail.jpg

to the footbridge which returns us to the mainland.

And yes, that is open water under the footbridge. There is an exceptionally strong current coming through this narrows. If you fell in, they'd never find your body until the spring melt.
:D I get to live here all year 'round.

Yes we do get wonderful summers here, although the boat traffic on the lake has gotten horrendous. Almost as congested as the city streets on long weekends. Still it is a beautiful setting to live in and there's always something to do for entertainment.

I'll try to get the same pictures for comparison this summer, although I'll need to borrow a boat for them.

The Sunday batch of pictures was taken at -3. Today it's -26 (-14 F) with a wind chill dropping it down to -39. Here's what the Lake of the Woods Ice road looks like at that temperature with the wind whipping up gusts of snow:
Ice road -28.JPG
Ice road -28.JPG (180.23 KiB) Viewed 1101 times

It's the same location as Sunday's photo just a tad nippier!

I just returned from taking these pics. Darn near froze my ears getting this shot! I only live 200 yards away from there.
This is an example of what people use for fishing through the ice. There are holes in the wooden floor of this moveable shack. The fishermen tow it to their location, drill the holes with an ice auger and set up their tackle. Fishing in the comparable comfort of a wooden shed instead of out in the open.

The Algarve, Albufeira. We're also doing an overnight to Malta, which appeals to me for it's historical signifigance. I doubt that we'll find much Whisky to bring home, as it's a direct flight to Faro from Toronto and the same coming back.

Pete 3 things I would reccemend that you do. Hopefully you'll have a hire car.

1. A drive up the Monchique moutain. the views are fantastic looking all along the coast. There are several restaurants up there as well with terrace views, a real nice place to stop for lunch.

2. A visit to Portimao. Its a real old fishing port. With harbourside restaurants where again its good to stop for lunch and have the bbq fresh fish and sardines that have been caught that day. It has a real old town as well good for shopping and walking around looking at the old buildings and walkways.

3. Agar Secco. It has a cliff top restaurant with views out to sea so its nice to get there before it gets dark and then they turn the floodlights on and light up the sand stone cliffs all around you. We have stayed several times in Cairveiro which is close to Agar Secco.

Hope you enjoy your stay there. And you must try the white Port, it's actually good with Portugese brandy. They have liquor stores in the towns you might find some thing interesting there.

A lovely walk with Oscar & Bente today! The weather was wonderful and I brought the camera for some inspiration. Please excuse me for boring you with all those pictures.......

First picture is from the Lyderhorn Mountain - and according to popular belief it's been a place for congregations of witches since medieval times.

They are spider cobwebs ..... basically when a spiders nest hatches the young spiders let out some web so that the wind can carry them off to a new place. I presume if the nest is in the grass or is too low they end up on the grass.

Or else it is one gready spider trying to take over my lawn

Came home to a lovely dinner after a hectic day at work. It's a local speciality; Smoked and salted "pork joint" served with potato, potato balls and tatties and neeps. And Linie Akevitt and ale of course.
