I met Willie JJ at the Bow Bar a couple of weeks ago--delightful fellow. Met his charming wife briefly, also. A couple days before, I met Jan and his crew of traveling Danes, on their way back from Islay.

I won't list every forum member I've met here, because I'm sure I'd forget a couple. Suffice it to say that I've met some great folks through these forums, and I'm grateful to WM for giving me that opportunity. A number of those people have, for various reasons, felt it a good idea to belong to another forum as well, one run by fellow whisky enthusiasts, rather than commercial interests; so we are also members at PeatFreak. Perhaps some of you would find it useful, as well.

Had the great pleasure of meeting Les Taylor and Bamber at the WL London. It was just a shame we did not get to spend more time talking but the problem was we probably could of talked all day and end up missing the event.

Look forward to meeting both of you again at future events.

Funnily enough I was going to ask you the same. For a whisky I go to the Piccadilly Lounge or the British Protection. If you haven't been in either, the Piccadilly Lounge is stylish and quite expensive though but has some good whiskies. The British Protection is small and less attractive but has a larger range. That's it really I haven't found any other good bars.

What about buying bottles in Manchester? I live quite near the centre so I try all nearby, none of which are particularly good.

I really like the Britons Protection but then I like old style pubs that serve decent pies. Although it does not seem to have anything out of the ordinary on the Whisky front, and most seems to be bourbon. I have not been to the Piccadilly Lounge, will have to check that one out.
On the bottle front I have not found a one stop shop and as I too live almost in the City Centre I tend to shop in Selfridges, Harvey Nics, Oddbins and the shop that used to be an Oddbins on Deansgate that I cannot remember the name of.

This is my usual round, although mine includes House of Frasier which is the worst to go in for prices. You sometimes get lucky, I got a Bushmills 16yo for £24 once.

Forgot to include HOF, which is actually my most frequent haunt though I buy infrequently because, as you say, the prices are not great (though is easy to put on HOF card when short of cash).

"What am I like? What R U like? Wot izzie like? "

I think it was Neneh Cherry who immortalised that phrase in dulcet cockney tones...

"I am that I am" Mr. L! :insane:

What you see is what you get - Reggaeblues!

Great to meet at last Nick, you and Dawn and 3 YO William.

Amazing to find us both new(4 years) daddies in our fifties... as Tina Turner once said:

"People think I'm getting old - I'm just getting started!" -

BTW This Abunadh you sold me(bargain!) is a fair old nightcap...

Yup. it is amazing! I have 2, Nick has one...

Really puts life into perspective. when "we" were pregnant with Jemima(how new age is that?!?) I was quite depressed for the first few months, because I was worried that I had not properly resolved my childhood dramas and traumas and might pass them on, as in "the sins of the father..." until a wise friend said to me: "The fact that you're even conscious enough to be worried about that should give you hope. Most people don't even consider it."

From then on, it was all positive!

Now I wonder, do they learn more from me, or do I learn more from them?

Yep I know about that! But we don't have that over here...

We have a children's story with "Jemima Puddleduck."

But she's none of these things - she really is a Jemima!

"Out of the mouths..." etc. And William's only 3!!! Ah, they learn young these days...

This from Jemima(4 last April)

At Easter she overheard her mother discussing housework with HER mother. "Mum, you know that I'm a complete slut when it comes to dusting!"

3 days later Lucie walks into pre-school to pick up Jemima, and hears her announcing to the headmistress, the other parents, children:

"My mummy's a slut!"

Derek from London!

...or Catford to be precise. Quite a sclepp to the Windsor Castle pub in Carshalton, but Derek came to a gig bless him, with his lovely wife Barbara, a cognac drinker who hates whisky ( especially that awful liquid germolene called Aaagh-dbeg)Yet she has a strange penchant for her hubbie's "christmas pudding-ey" Balblair!)

well, the landlord said it was the best gig I'd done there...so I hope you enjoyed it!

I'm very happy you came, and I enjoyed meeting you both.
