Europe - Rye

Postby kcjones21 » Wed Oct 23, 2013 5:01 pm

Hello all,

This is likely a fruitless search but I was wondering if anyone knows of any producers in Europe that is producing a rye whiskey? No single malts/scotches, just rye. Any help would be great, thanks!

Yeah that Zuidam will be the easiest to find. A couple in Germany and Austria (rye is roggen in German so look for Roggenmalz etc.).

From Germany, Norbert Winkelmann (don't laugh) make a Frankischer Rye. From another distillery is Schwarzwalder Whisky Roggenmalz.

From Austria there is Alpin Single Malt Rye. Also Rogner Waldviertel Rye Whisky. J. Heider make several different ryes, Pure Rye Malt, Original Rye, Special Rye Malt Peated, and Special Nougat Rye Malt.

Good luck, most are hard to find anywhere but locally and just in small batches, and chances are they won't be great. I have no idea on the amount of rye used, or the proportions of malted rye.
