Glenfiddich 12... My collection is not that big but I had this open. I guess thats what I get for horribly cutting back these past few months.

Huh, cutting back. Always seems like a good idea at the time.

Rosebank 21 OMC 50%. I will likely shed a tear when this bottle passes away. I would leave my (long suffering) fiance for this elegant beauty, and i've told her so. That's how much I love this whisky.

My first 'go' at Ardmore Traditional Cask... Starts off feeling younger and more 'virile' than its 46%ABV and the quarter cask finishing might have one expect, but quickly settles into stride. Like its fellow Eastern Highlander, Glen Garioch (in its younger guises, at any rate), more overtly malt-driven (think cereal) than fruity, 'chunky' in a textural sense rather than finessed, and with those lovely touches of earthiness just barely tinged with smoke. Solid stuff.

Hi all,
First post on here and looking forward to some interest topics and even learning more about whiskey. I've got a very modest wee collection but mainly enjoy drinking rather than collecting. :)

At the moment I'm drinking Jura Superstition and Glen Orrin from Aldi which is very decent for the money . Might crack open a nice bottle if my team St Mirren win on Sunday. :D

what is that last one?! is it good? enquiring minds pete.

It's something of an oily beast, rough at first pour but after 5mins in the glass transforms into a butterfly. Well butterflies are too delicate so lets go for an attractive sturdy moth  . The metamorphosis really is quite striking. Can't go wrong with these Chivas Cask Strength Edition bottlings.

Just to get Brian off my back. Opened this little beauty. I've reduced the flare a lot, meaning that's one shit load of light coming through that dark whisky.

bredman's notes

N: I'm trying to not say fruitcake, but this is just that, one of the rich fruity ones. Strong on raisins, currants, and sultana. Also dried apricot, dates, and an unctuous prune juice. Very nutty, walnut oil and pecan. Marzipan and cherry together. Dark chocolate, there's coffee too, i smell it but it's not there when i go looking for it, then suddenly it is. I'm loving this, it's all there, everything you would want from dark sherry, but it's all measured and doesn't totally hide the whisky beneath being malty, and the barley is quite succinct, as and when it chooses. Cardamom on the top notes.

T: Good mouthfeel and instantly spicy, much more than the nose, cassia, allspice, and some light clove. Aged rum and chocolate. Just before the finish kicks in there's prune juice again, and molasses. All held together with an oaky backbone.

F: Medium length plus a bit, and quite wonderful. Some coffee again. A lovely bitter-sweet finish. Almost all the previously encountered flavours are right there to the very end.

Balanced, you get a feeling this whisky has been crafted, and built, as it's so intricately woven. I will have this bottle open for a while, i want to savour this and watch it develop, so there may be updates but i can't imagine if i could take anymore complexity from this whisky. I had some in a glass for several hours, and try as i might, i just can't find any sulphur at all, not a hint of it, i pray it stays that way.

Talisker DE (1993) - part of a three set (10,DE & 18) ... actually my second pack opened and I'm ruing that I have just about 150ml's left of the DE.
Out of the whisky's I've tried (HP 12, 18; Glenmorangie 10/Nectar; The Singleton, Laph QC), the Tali DE is my fav (HP being tied up there as well). Just so turns out that I cant get my hands on a bottle here in South Africa. FRACK :-(
