Bruichladdich Full Strength, at the New Hampshire State Liquor Store while visiting a friend in Portsmouth;

Clynelish 14, which just became available here recently;

Macallan CS, just to get the nifty flask packaged with it ;

Cadenhead's Clynelish 12, just before I left Edinburgh;

Ardbeg LOTI and

Bruichladdich Valinch, both at the respective distilleries;

SFTC Port Ellen Burgundy Finish and

Lagavulin 25, both from Loch Fyne;

and the Whisky Shop in Inverness and the G&M shop in Elgin....

Now I'm into my back-and-forth to Canada part of the year, and will stock up on staples at the duty free shop--Ardbeg 10, Talisker, whatever else is available.

As I read this, I was lucky enough to have been pulled out of the hat (so to speak) in the Friends of Laphroaig draw for a bottle of the quarter cask: therefore have just ordered a bottle.

Balvenie 10 yo and Aberlour 15 yo sherry wood. The balvenie i havent had in a while and i am finally keeping tasting notes. The aberlour well because i love aberlour and haventhad ityet!

Last couple of purchases, Glenfarclas 105 to drink on a trip and Caol Ila 12 because it's new and I wanted to try it again.

Which year was this? The 1990 was great stuff if you like a well sherried Clynelish. I tried without success to get the 1990 14yo.

Glengoyne 12 cask strength, and what an outstanding purchase it was. Ultra-sherry isn't normally my thing, but this last year's Glengoynes have been outstanding. It's definitely going on my always-have-a-bottle-of-it list

Before that, some top-ups of regulars like Talisker10, Laphraoig10cs and Laga16, and then Clynelish 14, which will probably also be bought again when I finish it.

Harry, it's a 1989, bourbon barrel, 60.2%. I'd had a dram at the Bow Bar and it knocked my socks off, so I couldn't resist, even though my luggage was already full of whisky. The fellow at the shop on the Royal Mile said it was the last bottle he had. Seems to me it was quite a reasonable price, too, much less than, say, Douglas Laing would charge for similar.

I'll try to remember you when I open it. I'm working on the 14 now, and I think I may open the Cadenhead's just before finishing the 14, so I can compare. Also have a 200ml "Advance Sample" from DL, "refill hogshead" at 14 (1990), at 50%, of course. Maybe I'll work that one in,too.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask is my latest purchase also. In fact, I wonder how Lawrence didn't "won" since the six FOL that I know all have "won" ... which makes me think whether this "lottery" was just a marketing gimmick and this number of thousand lucky winner is approaching infinity. But then again, I'm known to be bit paranoid.

Anyway, Lawrence, check your emails again. Hard to believe that you would be so unlucky.

Edit: Here's a explanation for Lawrence's bad luck, this in the "lottery" rules:

Macallan 12YO - Nice but no better than the 10YO (IMHO) and for me inferior to the 10YO CS and 18YO by some margin.

Jameson 12YO - Yuk - really think I've got a bad bottle. Smells of glue though does taste better

Last night I bought 3xbottles of Gibson's 18yr old Canadian, and 1xbottle of Glenkinchie Distillers Edition. They were all on sale, (about 20% off). I like the Gibson's and the regular Glenkinchie. I got the DE version for the same price as the regular stuff, so I'm .

I've never had 18yo Gibson's but I hope its better than 12yo, which I find to be pretty dreadful.

Never had Glenkinchie DE as I prefer other lowland drams but let us know what you think of it compared to the regular 10yo.

Yeah, the 18yr old is a different animal from the 12yr (IMHO). It's one of only two cdn whiskies that I'd recommend as being of acceptable quality. As to the Glenkinchie DE, It's probably going to be a while before I open it. However, when I do, I'll post.

Glendronach 15 (100% sherry-casked): Quite nice - too bad it won't be available much longer. Even though it's only 40%, I like it a lot.

Compass Box Peat Monster (46% version): Not yet opened.

Black Bush: Not opened yet, but I throughly enjoyed the last bottle I bought.

Compass Box Eleuthera: Wow! A very nice sweet/smoke balance.

Currently sipping some Aberlour A'Bunadh (not a recent purchase)... this is the Batch #11 version. I just saw some Batch #12 at a nearby store, and I have a Batch #7 in reserve. Mmmmmm... if you're looking for a sherry monster, this is it.

Did you take any tasting notes on the Glenfarclas 17yo? I would like to know what you didn't like about it. I personally liked it however feel it is over priced for the quality. Maybe you got a bad bottle?

Between an HP 18yo and the glenfarclas 17yo I lean to the HP. I need to make another comparison

In this market at least, I find all the Glenfarcli are overpriced.

The 105 costs more than its namesake in dollars, even the 10yo is $80!! The 12yo and older bottlings are all far too expensive, although I do find the 15yo to be an exceptionally fine whisky.

I did, however, get a surprise the other day when I saw Glenfarclas Heritage on sale in a certain store for just $48. I know it's just an 8yo, but - by Glenfarcli standards - that's pretty cheap.

Over here, the 12yr Glenfarcas is C$80 and the 15yr is C$100. Interesting to hear the Lagavulen price over there Admiral. Over here it's C$90 for the 16yr old, but currently out of stock (or so I've heard) . When it comes back, it'll be interesting to see if the price goes up!

Yesterday(Saturday) I bought myself a bottle of 14Y old Clynelish, it was on discount with a special Gall&Gall Wine Card. I paid €35 for it so that's not a bad price...

Frodo, Laga 16yo is not yet out of stock but it is getting scarce for sure. I'm not sure what they have in the warehouse. The 12yo is also getting scarce, and the DE is nearly gone as well.

Similarly, Clynelish 14yo is disappearing fast so if you want to try that one, make it a near future purchase. So many whiskies, so little time and money, eh?!?

Frodo, in Alberta the Glenfarclas 12 is $59.95 which is not a bad price.

My latest purchase was a G&M Glen Grant 1989and bottled 2004 which I opened right away and tasted, a delicious whisky. A good purchase for $45!

I also recently had that G&M Glen Grant bottling, but I can't say I enjoyed it at the time. It came across as thin & a little weak in flavour.

However, I should keep an open mind, because it was one of the last drams I had after already getting stuck into some real heavy Islays and sherry monsters, so a light Glen Grant was never going to stand up to that sort of competition.

I believe the proper plural of "Glenfarclas" is "Glefarclæs".

Not bad by half! I'm always curious about regional variation in prices for the same bottle of Scotch... But then again, the lower taxes in Alberta would have something to do with that.

Just traded in 6 bottles of single malt for 2x bottles of the 24yr old Port Ellen. It was THAT GOOD. Expensive but worth it. Thank you LCBO for your return policy!!!

You'll never regret buying quality and the Port Ellen is a very good whisky. I have a few bottles myself.
