New whisky in Musky's lair. A Penderyn Portwood finish - as yet untasted; and a gift from a buddy as well - a 15 yo Glenfiddich. The DE.
That one I tasted immediately. A lovely dram, honeyed, floral nose, a spicy taste and finish. Long legs like a Vegas showgirl. It reminds me of the CS Glenfiddich I had on New Years Eve in about 2000. I went back for more. of said 15.

(Still gotta try that A'Bunadh I found earlier in the year, Ritch.)

Old Master and Te Bheag. Two rather pleasant blends.
One (Old Master) is showcased in the latest WM tastings.

GlenDronach 1996 17 year old limited edition only bottled for the Manitoba Liquor Board. Pedro Ximinez Sherry Puncheon cask 1488, bottle number 537 0f 641.
Beautiful rich auburn colour, and will try to post a photo off the cell phone. Or not.
Picked it up in Winnipeg Airport yesterday, only one left on the shelf.

A wee gift from my lovely wife on her return from The Big Easy. Yes it's open and is wonderful. Has the Talisker nose but the Palate and Finish are hot, sweet and spicy with even the lips tingling with the heat.
A wonderful dram.

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.
Just took the plunge and bought some very rare Japanese Whisky.
I just love the label designs on them. Don't know if I will ever drink them, but
you never know.
Hanyu The Joker monochrome bottle.
Hanyu Ace of Spades (the original release of 122 bottled in 2005)
Yamazaki 25yrs old bottled 1998
Yamazaki 1998 bottled 2009.
Anyone tasted any.. very little on the internet about them.

Yamazaki 25yrs old bottled 1998
I have a bottle of yamazaki 25 down to about 3 or 4 drinks left in it. I just back from japan 2 days ago I was hopeing to replace my bottle while over there. I checked 3 or 4 department stores with no luck. Tried hazegawa liquors in Tokyo as well with no luck got told there they would be back in next month. Didn't help me tho as im not back there to july.
If you read around on the internet you will find a lot of people saying that yamazaki 25 is just to old for a yamazaki whisky and its lost a little bit to oaky and what not. Im not some grand whisky master but I will say this I do not agree with what most people say on the net about yamazaki 25. In fact I say open the dam bottle
and really enjoy yourself its by far my favourity single malt. Its not super complex its a massive hit of very sweet and very very dry sherry if your not into a mouth drying sweet sherry you may not like it but if you are your in for a real treat.
as for the ace of spades I tried it in a bar in Hokkaido last week was searching department stores when I found a bar. The bar only served ichiros malt hanyu and chichibu and some kariuzawa. It was a very nice whisky from memory it was a 12 year old whisky aged first in a hogshead and second in a sherry cask. But and its a big butt for taste value alone and not collection reasons it was just that a nice whisky on taste alone to me it wouldn't be worth a huge price.

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.
About a month ago i got a bottle of glenfarclas 40 which is a fantastic whisky. That being said i found the taste not to be as good as the 30 the nose was fantastic better than the 30 but the taste goes to the 30.
While on a trip to japan a few weeks back i got a bottle of hakushu 25 and a hakushu 12. I also got two bottles of yamazaki 2014 limited edition which was a real fruit and sherry taste great for the price.

Just got a Hibiki 21yrs old in the Mount Fuji bottle.
The bottle is a beauty in its design, seems a shame to open it.

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.
I just picked up a 10yo Glenmorangie, nothing supper rare or special, but it is a nice way to introduce my friends into the world of Whisky!
I think it is always important to have a gateway Whisky at hand to introduce people.
