Just bought some bottles for a basic tasing this weekend

Glenmo 10
Ardbeg 10
Springbank 10
Glenkinchie 12

Got to start people somewhere, it was a toss-up between Glenkinchie and Auchentoshan couldn't find a Rosebank or Bladnoc :), the tasing will also contain Talisker 10 and Glenfiddich 15.

Thanks hyperfuji. I could get the Laddie 1973 OB from my local whisky shop at only 198.90 € but he sold his last bottle. He found another bottle though at one of his colleagues at 210 €. So I don't complain. I was in doubt between this PE 5 or a Brora 5th release at a raisonable price but the PE 5 was just too good to let it pass. I'm still looking out for that Laga 21yo!

That's serious money Johan, I hope it's worth every € spent. Or is it an investment?

I'm almost embarassed to say that I just came home with a Black Bottle (was even on sale) and a bottle of Cragganmore 12.

I'm quite sure it's worth every €. I know it's a lot of money but these were too good to let them pass. If you look at the current prices of the PE's I'd say it's money well spent. Besides I've done enough research on the internet before I decided to buy these bottles. It's not meant as an investment. I intend to open them one fine day.
Why should you be embarassed? There is no need to. I also buy bottle that are on sale, believe me.

Ok, great to see you bought it for drinking purposes. I hope you find your very fine day. :)

My embarassement was just related to your purchase and not intended literally. Buying whisky on sale is twice a happiness. :D

Just got a bottle of Laphroaig 18 for the great price of $74.00, beats the $149.00 I saw it for last week in DC.

I tried it recently and I DO NOT like it, powerless, tasteless... and caramel added
The best one quality/price is 10yo

I havn't cracked it open yet but plan on trying it here in the near future, I didn't think it was worth it for the original price I saw of $150 but worth a try at $74. I agree with you on the 10 (it use to be <$30 a bottle now its up to $50 so not as good of a deal now) but I'm a huge fan of the CS 10 yr old, 80 proof is just not enough for an islay in my opinion.

Ganga wrote:I've had the 18 in the past and think it is reasonable in the $75 range. It is much more subtle than the 10, 10 CS, QC. Bears a resemblence to the 15 although I prefer the 15. Laphroaig 10 is great value considering I can get it for just a hair over $30.

It and Ardbeg 10 used to be $30-$35 in Ohio with specials taking them under $30 but over the last year or so they have both been raised to around $50 a bottle. Luckily I bought a dozen Ardbeg 10's before they switched to the new bottling but I find it hard to pay $50 for the Laphroaig 10 when I can get the CS and QC for $5-$10 more.

Interested in your thoughts JB...

I don’t know if I’m going to open it yet, still sweet talking Mrs Barleycorn into buying another out of the housekeeping money.

We live in hope.

I know this is a new addition to the SMWS range and hope you will excuse my ignorance, but from which distillery, on Islay, does this whisky come from?
