Aaaah. As a true Belgian (while I can still call me a Belgian  ) I think some of our beers are superior to whisky because of their history. If you know some of the history of the monks and their trappist beers ... And let's be honest. Some of our Belgian beers are *%#& good.

For myself and most of our whisky drinking friends usually start a session with a beer or two and why not indeed .The problem (if it actually is a problem) lies in the bulk .that ales take up .After three or four beers while the steaks are cooking on the barbie we more often than not start looking at the single malts because they are simply nicer to drink. Quality versus quantity you could reason but have any of you noticed how well a peaty malt goes with fresh barbequed scallops or a dozen oysters on the half shell? truly a match made in heaven .Beer has it's place but single malt leads the race

Did some beer 'trappist' you, perchance?

Well, just to play along with this devil's advocate thread:

That's one I don't really like I'm afraid. If you can get your hands on Sint-Bernardus tripel on the other hand. Now that's a real stunner!!

When I think of beer, I think of some of the finest English Real Ales in a good pub, and they take some beating.

Beers in many other places dont compare I'm sorry to say, therefore single malts wipe the floor with most.

A good real ale is a worthy opponent to a single malt, and luckily it doesn't have to be one or the other.

I'll continue on my talk about "Good" beers here, basically beers that are not overloaded on hops, can be great, some of my favorites are Stouts, Porters and Wheat beers.

Stouts and Porters because they offer some amazing creamy and chocolate flavors. And wheat beers offer some incredible fruit flavors. Granted whisky can have creamy, chocolate, and fruit flavors but this is where the alcohol in whisky changes the experience of those flavors.

Because when its 90+ degrees and I've just mowed the lawn there's no way I'm reaching for a malt...

Baseball, hot dogs and beer...

I don't consider it superior, just more available. I can get a case for $50 or 1 bottle of scotch...and there are just times beer is more appropriate...like in the hot summertime in afternoon after mowing the lawn...give me a nice pilsner,IPA,or Belgain white...I'm not really thinking ..hmmm a nice Glenlivet would hit the spot now lol...

Beer is more a any day/time type beverage where I consider a scotch a "treat" that I can't AFFORD to drink a lot of ;-)

On a hot day or after a round of golf a beer hits the spot. However, there is zero, none, nothing that compares to a single malt as the SUPERIOR drink. End of discussion...:)
