Talisker 18. The bottle's been there for well over a year. And after a good three course meal with guests, resistance was futile.

Caol Ila Moch.

Beautiful distinct Caol Ila nose/taste yet soft and with some sweetness, honey and caramel. Its moderateness makes it a very nice every day Islay, no matter the time of day (well, after noon that is).

For less than €30 an absolute no-brainer!

Bowmore 12 Mini - hadn't tried this before and very pleasantly surprised.

Douglas laing & Co. Ltd. Big Peat... Like the whisky (an obviously well crafted melding of Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila - definitely the predominant component - and a smaller quantity of Port Ellen) and like the Balvenie-style bottle, too.

Balvenie 12 DoubleWood. Pleasant on the nose but the palate is dull, and the finish is short.

Moved on to the Balvenie 21 PortWood. Much better.

I remember this one. Bruichladdich 10 46%. An old bottling - this one, dug out of the tip - it's getting crowded in there.

Glenfiddich 102

I had gotten two bottles of this at $40/each awhile back and was hesitant to open them as I wasn't sure of their continued availability. I had the 102 at a Balvenie/Glenfiddich tasting and it's really one of my favorites!

So last night I found them in a shop for $50/each. Picked up 2 more bottles which meant it was time to crack one! MMMMMM Even my wife liked it! ;)

High West Rendezvous Rye.
Jameson Gold Reserve.
Amrut Cask Strength 61.8%.
St Georges English Chapter 6.
Old Pulteney 1991 17yo Single Cask 0030 57.6%.
Glen Grant 28 BF.

All were very good, but not the Glen Grant which was annoyingly disappointing. The High West is a new entry onto my favourites list.

Uigeadail bottled 2010. I was actually expecting to like this more than I have experienced so far. After a Laga Distiller's Edition and now the Oogie, I'm starting to think that sherry is not my favourite. It is a lovely whisky, but I find the sweetness perhaps distracting or unnecessary. I do like it better than the Laga, though, and will certainly finish the bottle with relish.

Smith's Angaston 8yo. Really good stuff! Would like to see this 8yo and their cask strength 10yo get a little more recognition beyond Australia, but the quantities released were so relatively small (especially for the 10yo). :-\

Port Charlotte PC8 Ar Duthcas.

I get a big whiff of microwave popcorn up front. It's not bad, just surprising :).

There's a similarity to Port Ellen in this. Lovely nose, maybe a little lacking in complexity; but full, farmy/buttery and billowing.

J&AM Springbank 12 yo CS 54.4% Claret Wood. Colour is almost amber; Nose has floral and honeyed notes; Definitely full bodies with legs like a young colt; The Palate echoes the honey notes in the nose, with an added spiciness; Finish is warming and spicy as well as long and lingering on the tongue.

According to the label, 9 yrs in a refill bourbon cask followed by 3 in fresh Claret casks. Reminds me of tales I've heard about Queen Victoria - who would have loved this. She used to mix whisky and Claret, thereby ruining two great drinks at once! Maybe she was on to something after all!

I think I might just climb into that Glenmo Nectar D'Or tonight. It was a prize after all ...

Just opened the 18 year old Bowmore I got bought as a leaving present from work.

Oh my, very special indeed. It's made the rest of my collection seem rather poor and bland!

Great peatiness and incredibly drinkable.

Peated BenRiach 10y, Curiositas, very impressed. Manageable complexity, sweetness but not cloying with a heavy hit of peat, peper and oak balancing it out. I like it.
