Whisky-related dog name...help!

Postby MGillespie » Mon Feb 16, 2009 6:01 am

OK, gang...my family is getting another dog this week...a male Old English Sheepdog puppy! Problem is...as the only other male in the house (at least the only one who can talk), I'm trying to keep the women of the family from sticking this poor puppy with a name that would get its butt kicked in the schoolyard (They're actually considering names from "Pride and Prejudice  )!

I've been told that if I can come up with a suitable whisky-related name, that I might actually have a chance of getting my way this time...here's what I've come up with so far...

Talisker
Pulteney
Macallan (this one was actually suggested by my wife)
Drammer
Orkney

Please...help me with a suggestion that will spare me the embarrassment of standing on a street corner and having to command "Darcy, SIT!"

How about short names like

Glen
Pete (geddit?)
Arran
Laddie (with the appropriate long version on the pedigree papers)

Macduff
Tobermory (Toby?)

That would be a cool name. And how about a Bourbon-related one such as 'Beam', 'Booker', 'Hancock', etc?

I LIKE Talisker! Great name for a dog! Prefer it to Balvenie

I also like "Whisky" and "Laddie!"

But how about A'boner?

Suggested Scapa and was shot down, and there's no way in hell I'm naming the poor pup A'boner...especially when he's getting his nuts cut off in a few months!

Mark our Cat is called Talisker. Which has been shortened to Tali.

What makes me laugh is when we get a reminder from the vets for her annual inoculations. And they refer to her as Talisker Taylor. :P

Well, to be sure you haven't misunderstood, you pour yourself a large helping of Batch 14 and go give the wife her conjugal rights.

Dog? What dog??

Anyway, the name's officially a no go, and the poor mutt gets the cut...

There are some good names here. Booker, Hancock, Woodford. They’re good robust boy-dog names. Or how about Forester, George or even Jack whilst we’re on whiskey.

irishwhiskeychaser wrote:Old Weller

I like that a lot

Have you already met the pup? I find you look at a dog and the name it needs to be given will spring to mind, whether it’s what you originally intended for it or not :)

Thanks for the suggestions, gang! The name has been picked...and while I didn't get my way...at least we avoided the dreaded "Darcy." :headbang:

The winning name is "Bristow"...
