Cold medicine

Bad Monkey: Did you and I attend U of M together a long time ago? You may be in Edmonchuk, but you sure sound like some of the Aggies I used to party with. I'd like to add that it was an Aggy Degree friend that introduced me to Single Malts one Saturday morning - a Glenlivet 12 yo in 1977. I've neve...

Bernie, You are right on the money and in Ojibway too! Are you also a misplaced Northerner? ...or did you endure your misspent youth over here? Now, can you say Washuisk Onigum? I have trouble with "Wassay Gezhig Na Nahn Dah We Igamig" so use the anglicized Washagamis Bay instead. As for f...

Frodo of Toronto: Greetings from the far north of our fair province. I take it that you've discovered the LCBO website and how to check stocks in the various stores. They do inventory on Mondays, however it includes any stock that have been "put aside" for a special order. So based on last...

16 yo Lagavulin cough medicine

Interesting.

We've been fighting that dry cough for about three or more weeks and have been trying the Dristan cold medication every 4 hours.

To think Lagavulin will help dry coughs and here I was drinking Caol Ila CS tonight. I'll go pour some Islay cough medicine right away.

Whisky glasses and snobs

This string deserves a comment. This Christmas, my wife gave me two crystal Single Malt whisky glasses from Nova Scotia Crystal that she'd picked up in Halifax. They have a pretty nice product, albeit a tad expensive. The whisky just looks better and presentation is everything. As for whisky snobs, ...

How many is too much?

I've got just over 150, a third of which were gifts. It has always been my intention to drink these bottles but it has gotten out of hand. At my rate of consumption, I'll finish what I've got in around 50 years. This link shows my display of the cooler ones, but I've got many others stashed around ...

Lawrence in Victoria:

I live far far away in a nearly uninhabitable part of the old British Empire.

Issue 52

Well, my issue arrived a couple of days ago, in pristine condition despite Canada Post, however I still haven't seen Issue 51 yet. I've contacted Whisky magazine and am confident that they'll be able to help. The cover subject on issue 52 is prettier than that shown on the website of cover 51, I mus...

Favorite 25? - Balvenie Single Cask

Nick, I wish I lived in Alba and could access 25 yo more readily. Being in the far North across that big pond definitely restricts our choices. Now about ageism - I personally perceive that the Balvenie 12 is superior to the 15 yo and then there is a marked improvement by the 21, until you reach the...

Favorite Islay?

1979 Port Ellen 22 yo which I gave a personal score of 95 out of 100. When it was acquired the cost was $240.00 Can and that price has been maintained by the local store. My number two would be Laphroaig 10 yo closely followed by Lagavulin 16 yo, the 1979 has not as yet been broached. I only enjoy t...

What whisky would you carry in your flask?

Last time I went camping, I picked the Macallan 10 yo new oak for the flask. Needless to say it was warmly welcomed by my buddies around the campfire that night. Next time I think it'll be Lagavulin or Laphroaig for the warming qualities and delightful smoky nuances. In the morning, when camping (I ...

How Many bottles ...

Hmmm, Single malts? I guess around 130 at last count not including duplicates for the odd favorite (Signatory Edradour sherry cask1989, Aberlour Abunadh, Mortlach, Port Ellen 21 yo)). Unopened, roughly 2/3 as I prefer not to sample alone and wait until a friend can find time to trundle over. I'd pos...
