Re: Japanese whiskey advice

I know from way back Pete Smoke is a big fan of Hak 12, but I also know he's been enjoying his latest bottle of Yama 12 more than he has past bottling's. Or, maybe his palate is just maturing :P My personal favorite of the 12YO's is actually Yoichi, but even then there is still batch variation. htt...

Re: Japanese whiskey advice

It's a strange notion that someone can just say Hakushu 12 or Yamazaki 12 and that be the end of it. There is batch variation in even standard bottling's such as these. My current bottle of Yamazaki 12 is every bit as good as a good batch of Hakushu 12 even though the styles are quite different. As ...

I can't fault TTD's recommendations, but I'd go for Springbank 15 if your only going to only get one. Balanced and Complex. Actually the first single malt I ever bought(I've had many since).

Seems bredman knows more about the booze scene in Australia than I do these days, though I do know that Dan Murphey's has Makers Mark on Special this week for $37 at least in Queensland. There's plenty of online sites in Australia with a larger range than DM but nothing you'd get by today. The sites...

Thanks for the props but no help at all. I've only tried Hellyers Road and Nant Distilleries and I wouldn't go out of my way for either especially at the prices they charge. I could get all 3 versions of Nikka NAS Pure malts plus delivery charges from Japan for the same price or less as one of those...

Re: Advice on my next purchase, under 50€

No real investment value in Talisker 10 I would think. If you are looking for the one closest to the Talisker it would be the Caol Ila. I don't necessarily agree with Ganga that it would be a lot stronger than the Talisker, for me that would be the likes of Ardbeg or Laphroaig.

1. It was MADE to drink. 2. It's a VERY tasty whiskey, indeed. 3. You'd be depriving yourself of a delicious taste experience if you socked the bottle away. I've tried it various ways, from straight-up (small sips are the way to go if you choose this option) to diluted with water (not too much, tho...
