Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom

I have now bought and sold on Whiskyauctioneer, Whisky-onlineauctions and SWA. Generally they have all been pretty good to deal with. Only complaint I would mention is communication is poor at SWA. Sometimes takes days to reply to emails or not at all. Not very professional. All three despatch promp...

Re: The Macallan 10 Year Old info please

A friend of mine saw bottle like these in Cyprus last November and I'm sure he said that they were retailing at something like 90 euros.
If that was the case then the retailer is certainly "clued up".

I have used whiskyauctioneer to make a purchase.
Apart from minor teething problem with payment it was a good experience.
No qualms about using again.

Up from £55 a week or two ago.

Re: What is a fair price when selling to an online retailer?

Retailers will generally offer you 50% of their retail price, citing overheads such as wages, vat, rent/rates etc and of course profit.
Possibly get more at auction but then you're taking a chance.

Re: Ebay - what is going on ?

Following advice from a previous poster (not even sure if it was on this forum) I tried to list a bottle on eBay Germany - and it was removed.
Maybe I was doing something wrong as my German is non-existant.

Why should business users get preference over Joe Public? Surely the rules should be the same for all?
Looks like auction rooms will soon be the only place to buy and sell whisky.

Re: Ebay - what is going on ?

Exactly. Your bottles are 8 and 6 years old respectively so do not qualify.
Indeed the CONTENTS are over 20 years old but that doesn't count.
Frustrating, but that's their new rules.
Still loads of readily available non-20 years old stuff on though.

Re: Ebay - what is going on ?

Richard I don't understand. You say that your whisky was bottled in 2007 and 2005. That makes them (the bottles) 6 and 8 years old respectively. In eBay's eyes that does not comply with their rule that the bottle should be over 20 years old. It doesn't matter how old the contents are, the bottle has...

Re: Ebay - what is going on ?

whiskygalore7 I don't think you do comply. To comply your bottles would have to be available for sale as a finished product so to speak pre-1992, i.e. on the shelf for sale before that date. Yours have only been available as a finished product in the last year or so from what you say. I too have had...

Re: Ebay - what is going on ?

You ain't gonna get anywhere with eBay. They don't understand the concept of collectable and aren't going to try. I would have thought that they are losing 000's in fees/commission so more fools them. This story about alcohol being sold to under 18's just doesn't wash. There are a multitude of web-s...

Glenrothes 1973

I have found a Glenrothes 1973 in a shop but it is in the "open front and back" type packaging.
I can only find it on websites in the "tube" type packaging.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is? Are there different 1973´s?
It is priced at 150 euros. Is this reasonable.

Re: Ebay - what is going on ?

I am based in North of Scotland.
As far as I can see there is no direct comparison with eBay available, i.e. bottles have to be sent to auction organiser who sells them on your behalf and sends them on.

Re: Ebay - what is going on ?

I too have fallen foul of eBay's "20 years old" rule. I listed a genuinely collectable bottle, all criteria met - not available at retail outlet etc etc, and it was removed. Are there really self appointed eBay police out there? Either way eBay have no idea what constitutes "collectab...
