Re: Show Off Your Inventory

Welcome cfind, hope you enjoy your time here.

Interesting collection. Are your closed bottles to be opened at some point? :)

For additions, if I have correctly guessed a trend and if you can get your hands on them - Talisker 18, the Yoichi 20 1987 and any limited release Ardbeg.

No, I've never paid any anyway. All costs, expensive admittedly, are all shown on the website.

One sold on whiskyauction.com in May last year for 170Euros so I would hazard a guess that £200 is a little high.

I used to get Monkey Shoulder and Makers Mark mixed up for some reason and I may even have said to someone that Monkey Shoulder was a bourbon. Just trying to remember the taste of MS, I think a very vague similarity to a bourbon is possible.

MS to me? Meh. An ok every day dram.

My brother asked me whether I insured my collection not so long ago so I investigated and never really got anywhere I'm afraid.

And now I have the Go Compare tune in my head. Has anyone seen the recent Egyptian themed one? These adverts are really getting out of hand.

Re: What's your latest bottle opened?

I think I will also jump on the band wagon and say yes, the Caol Ila CS is a fantastic whisky although I haven't tried this particular bottling, I have tried the 61.6% which great and I assume is very much along the same lines as the 58.6%

Anyone noticed much variation between these bottlings?

Re: What is Your Favorite Bottle Type (Shape)

From a practicality point of view, I like the common Diageo bottles - Talisker, Lagavulin, Caol Ila etc. as well as the Compass Box bottles, they sit in the hand perfectly making an easy, controlled pour. But those already mentioned, Ardbeg, a'bunadh, Balvenie all greats too.

A 1972 14yo fetched 380 Euros in 2006 on whiskyauction.com.

The 1972 12yo is for sale at oldwhisky.net for 690 Euros and a 72 14 for sale at whiskyparadise.com but unfortunately no price tag. I cannot find any 73s but I would have thought it must value in this ballpark.

Re: selling Oban Whiskey limited edition

Zakotnik,

Welcome to the forums. I'm afraid you're not allowed to sell whisky on this forum so if you are looking to sell I would perhaps recommend a sending to a whisky auction i.e. whiskyauction.com or McTear's.

If you do decide on a whisky auction I hope all goes well.

They have a DL O&R Port Ellen 30 which I have my eye on. Cheaper here than anywhere else I can see and cheaper than DL's other 30 PE bottlings. I have their 27 which is my favourite bottle of all time. You should try the 23yo O&R single cask for Bar Metro - yum Thanks Nick although I think ...

Re: Bottle left standing for a while

This was a question I was going to ask myself not so long ago. With the Caol Ila 12 the tip of the tongue fruitiness seems to go and the saltyness more prominent if you pour straight from a long time standing I find. So now I whirl the bottle before pouring (not shacking for the reasons that Nick ga...

The Ardmore TC is the only whisky I've ever had which I wasn't able to drink. Maybe there was something wrong with it, but it was dreadful. That really does surprise me, I must say. Great review. I love everything about CI12 from nose to finish. I have tried to describe the flavour at the tip of the tongue before but to little success, I think the white wine you mention fits quite well, perhaps a German wine, a Liebfraumilch maybe and that prickle at the back of the throat - fa...
