Having a little of the 1987 Tullibardine John Black Sellection #2, formerly at cask strength now cut with a little distilled water. Still packs a quite a punch

Re: FAVOURITE JOHNNIE WALKER LABEL

A bump for a comatose thread. I've had all with the exception of JW Swing and the hoity-toity Blue Label King George/Crystal decanter, and while the Gold and Green are very nice, and the Blue is very smooth, the Black label is just so right with an excellent finish. I'm reacquainting myself with som...

Lucas, I'm somewhat surprised that you don't list The Canny Man's from your own Edinburgh.

I had the pleasant experience of having a dram there with Ms. Misako Udo and some of her friends when I was in Edinburgh for Hogmanay in DEC. '06

John, I saw the tasting note on the site you mention. Even better, the goodies arrived TODAY!! :D

The 15YO is #484 out of 600.

And for anyone who cares, there's a listing for a 1951 Knappogue on Ebay out of Colorado for $995 :o

Since it was St. Patrick's Day, a question about

an Irish whiskey, specifically Knappogue Castle 15 YO. I'll say this, that I was first introduced to Knappogue Castle via the 1992 vintage (which is still one of my personal favorites, and the later Bushmills sourced 1994 isn't bad, either...haven't had the 1995), and found a place in New Jersey tha...

Re: Apart from whisky what do you drink? And your recommedations

I'll have a beer/ale on occasion, unless there's a Strongbow on tap. I became acquainted with tequila before I ever had any whisky, and have enjoyed the El Patron silver, reposados by Cabo Wabo and El Tesoro, and the Herradura Seleccion Suprema is a FINE tequila that to my mind is more like a cognac...

Re: Old comber and coleraine whiskey

Older Irish whiskey is quite different, in my opinion. I don't know how much money you have to spend, but if you can get your hands on the Knappogue Castle 1951, it's well worth a try. Even if you pick bottles of Jameson 1780 from the 1980s you get the tast of the older style Irish whiskey. It's qu...

This is unfortunately nothing new: The wine industry ha been doing this on a LARGE scale for years. You would be amazed at the number of "oak aged" wines that aren't aged in oak barrels, but are instead flavoured with oak chips. Think caramel in Whisky is bad? Check out "mega-purple&...
