Re: Top 5 favorite distilleries

Current favorites are Port Ellen Brora Glendronach Ardbeg Karuizawa Port Ellen, Ardbeg & Brora because of their individual intense and complex 'Islay' style, Glendronach & Karuizawa are my favorite drams which have been matured in sherry casks. Lagavulin, Highland Park, Macallan, Longrow, Co...

Re: What are you drinking now?

Nightmare in Paisley, since it's Christmas i decided to open my 24yo 1977 56.1% Rare Malts Brora. So i take off the silver foil and then try to lift the cork which comes out a few mm's then splits leaving the stump stuck in the bottle. No problem as Jimmy keeps used corks for these emergencies, not ...

Diden't happen to be Oddbin's?

I was in today looking at the Bruichladdich's in the display and they looked cloudy and was thinking not many people would buy that if they did'ent know it was natural.

It diden't happen to be a cold day?

If it was it's prob just protein which solidifies at low temps and would have gone back to clear at room temp.

**edit - i dident notice you were in the UK so it was a cold day**

Re: The "legs"

Nice 'Ninja Bump'!! I thought that the 'legs' and 'beads' were an indication of the content of sugars and proteins left in the whisky (or wine, vodka etc.). For example an old cask strength unfiltered whisky would stick to the glass due to the higher concentrate of sugars and protein as some of the ...

Spoke the Ben Nevis a weeks or so ago, the UK will not be seeing anymore single casks now as parent company (one of the Japanese companies) has said no to us, but yes remains to germany and sweden, sweden i believe are getting a 67 and germany a 12yr old, both single casks. Rob Thank god for IB's.

Stay away from pewter flasks, they are very easy to damage if you sit on it or it gets stood on or something.

I third the Longrow CV picked up my second bottle of this yesterday, if you were to blind taste this you could mistake it for an Islay, also i don't know how much longer it will be available. JWG is good too but for a few extra quid i would go for the CV.

Re: Why do JWG cost less than its components

I thought about this when i bought it last week, i payed about £25.00 which is much less than any 15yo SM. I suppose they must have done some serious vatting to get the price down so low, there may also be cost saving if they bottled a large amount. £25.00 for a whisky of this quality is a steal i i...
