What is that John? Is it just a nice shiny box for an Ardbeg 10yo?

Re: Nosing descriptions for novices/to confusing

I had the same problem when I started drinking whisky and I still do! I know what I am tasting but I find it very hard to describe it in words! When I drink I like to relax and not be trying to find the descriptor that best matches what I am tasting! Usually my notes consists of like it or don't lik...

Ahh so everyone did experience that weird country selection glitch! I was moaning about it in the Supernova Thread in the collector's corner!

Thats why I'm not too concerned and tbh I didn't think it would sell out so fast because there would be a general release later. But thats besides the point, he missed out so he's gonna blame me!

So did anybody experience the glitch this morning?

Re: Ardbeg 10 Year Old

I prefer the QC over the Ardbeg 10yo but the Ardbeg is still a fine whisky! Sometimes expectations can be too high. When I first tried the Ardbeg 10yo the Best Whisky in the World 2008 I have to admit I was underwhelmed! But upon comparison with other peaty whiskies I found that only a few were as g...

Wow is it gone already? My mate rang me this morning and said he couldn't order it through the website as it kept getting stuck at the bit where you pick the country! I tried doing it on my PC but the same thing was happening! I told him it was probably to much traffic and to try at lunch! He is gon...

Re: What to buy at the Whisky Exchange?

Alas the DR Bowmore is sold out! I like my peated Islays and have recently started to enjoy heavily sherried whiskies such as the Abundh. I would like something that would preferably be only found at TWE! So at this moment I'd probably go for the Ardbeg or Laphroaig that R900P mentioned but any othe...

Re: NEW ODDBINS AGAINST THE GRAIN - "RAISON D'ETRE"

Opened the Borratolls last night, initial impressions intense peat. If its not from Islay I would be very surprised! I couldn't get much from the nose, but on the palate the first thing is a rich intense peat with a hint of smoke. The peat gives way to a long citrus finish much like mandarin peel. I...

What to buy at the Whisky Exchange?

I am heading to London soon, I'll only have time to go to the Whisky Exchange. What do you think I should buy for myself for around £50?
I've got my eye on the Dewar Rattray's Bowmore.

Also does anyone have suggestions for a cheap but tasty lunch at Borough Market!

Thanks

Thanks Rosebankfan, that clears that up! I brought two bottles on the strength of the tasting notes and completely forgot about them - so many things to open but so little time! Newbie can you tell us when the 25 was bottled? (a date code is printed on the glass on the back of the bottle) I'll check it out tonight when I get home, never thought to check the date code on it! Batch 23 lasted a few months so I am very surprised that it jumped from batch 24 to 25 so quickly. M...

Just to complicate things but if you want a batch 24 you might want to hurry because there were no batch 24 left in my Waitrose as of tonight - only batch 25. Whether there'll be any more batch 24 coming in I have no idea, but if you have to have the 24 it might be a good idea to buy it now just in ...

Waitrose are running a single malt show case that runs from the 5th November to 2nd December. The majority of offers will run until the 2nd. A few malts such as the Redbreast 12 are 'normal' xmas offers and will run until Jan. The offers at the moment are absolutely fantastic - what do people think ...

Arberlour Abundh Batch 24! For those who are interested its at 60.2% (exactly the same as batch 23 if I'm not mistaken). Might open it tonight and do a head to head with batch 23 (which is very nice).

Glenmorangie 10, Macallan 10, Arberlour Abundh 23, Ardbeg 10!

Can't seem to get enough of the Abundh at the moment - its rich, sticky and sweet! Vatted it with some Ardbeg 10 last night, wasn't bad but I think I'll stick with the Udgidal.

Picked up a Treacle Treat today! Its a 16yo at 46%. Its supposedly from a refill sherry hogshead but looking at the colour thats unbelievable! Its a rich mahogany and looks very tasty indeed. Anybody have any idea what distillery its from?
