Re: Suspected fake macallan please help

I think Campbell stopped bottling in the early 80s so the bottle would be around 30 years old. but the label is modern looking and not worn, and I have never seen or heard of a of single cask cask strength bottling, that is much more a modern interest. Finally, I'm not sure when cork started being u...

Re: Celebrate Babys 1st

If you are looking for something really special (which it seems you are) I would look for an Old mac 25 anniversary (just under 2k), easily worth the upgrade from the current bottling @1200+. If you do go for smoke, try for a sherried ardbeg single cask although that would likely be a bit over 2K - ...

Re: The best way to sell my bottle

TWE is a retail shop, which means that they look to pay a most half of what they charge, that is their business, you should not be insulted. At auction, these go for around 1500-2000 pounds so I would not really expect much more than 1400. http://www.mctears.co.uk/auctions/lot.aspx?id=8dddb3e6-5d71-...

Re: Whisky onlline auctions

nope. I logged in to bid and it said I was banned so I emailed and that was the response. Thing is this really affects sellers as I have spent over 25k pounds and bought 40 bottles over the past year alone. And I was the underbidder on at least the same amount, so by banning sellers lose thousands o...

Re: Macallan 25.. help!?

What's the vintage? Its worth loads, probably nearer £1000 than £500. The stander bottle today has gone loopy -£750+. Early vintages are particularly crazy. Check out The Whisky Exchange but keep a bucket os salt nearby to take generous pinches of. Sorry I have to disagree it is non vintage putting...

This rule (and the corollary below) has made my life hell...
If you only buy 2 then when you open one you will not be able to open another because it is your last bottle, so better buy three.

Re: Whisky Valuation Dot Com

Thanks and appreciated but the problem is that without considering premium which ranges from 10% -25% it gives a skewed valuation. 230 +10% is more than 200 +25% but your tool (and others) would show a large drop.

Re: Macallan 25 - Correct Vintage?

The commonly found non-vintage anniversary malts were bottles from 2000 - 2004. value is around 800-1100 USD.
There may have also been a non vintage bottling around 1981- 1982 but that is very rare.

Auction to avoid Live Whisky auction

I participate in basically every online and physical whisky auction and am sorry to be writing this but I have come across what I believe to be purposely deceitful marketing by this auction. Re: Port Ellen 10th & 11th Release - UK

I used SWA. Very happy with their service and found them to be very nice and accommodating.
They go for around 700 pounds at SWA (before buyer's premium) I'd expect around 650 in a private sale. I'd happily give you 600 for the 10th but that is relatively low.

Re: Macallan 25 different labels and boxes

depending on color of the box it is from the release before the new blond wood boxes with the red ribbon and wax seal on the bottle.
until around 2004 there were wood boxes (first blond then red) then came the cardboard in various colors (brown and red) until around 2010
