Re: Whisky Live London 2010 (26-27 Feb)

I was there for about 3 1/2 hours yesterday. It was good but overall I thought there were too many guests / not enough exhibitors.

To get to some of the tables involved a bit of a bunfight at times, I still managed to come home with 4 bottles though :)

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.

RMW deliverd a bottle of Yamazaki Sherry Cask this morning. I grabbed a bottle from Gordon & Macphail on New Years Eve (just before Elgin closed down due to a blizzard) and one I cracked it open I had to get another. :iwbrnt:

Re: Kilchoman 3 years old

I got quite a lot of eau-de-vie on the nose and licorice in the taste, but it is very hot and spirity. There's promise there, but this isn't a particularly great whisky in my opinion, more a curiosity right now than anything else. However, it isn't as one-dimensional as some of the youthful malts fr...

Re: Help Required - Please Advice - Baby Girl - Oct 2009

I can tell you that whisky is Glenfarclas, and I can also tell you that it is absolutely gorgeous as I have a bottle.

At £125 it is less than half the price of the equivalent 1966 'Family Cask'.

I heard from a Diageo employee over the New Year period that they had stopped bottling it and there'll be no more coming.

So, if you see it, grab it.

There were 3 bottles in my local Waitrose. A batch 25, a 27 and a 28.

If I hadn't just got back from Speyside (and a few trips to the local whisky shops) I'd have had all 3.

Tamdhu closed ... ?

I've just been on Speyside where I heard that Tamdhu has been closed. I also heard rumours that Tullibardine is also closing/being mothballed and that Burn Stewart are having some cash problems and Bunnahabhain may not re-open after the winter period. Anyone close to the industry able to confirm/deny?

Re: Has anybody ever visited the Port Ellen Maltings?

I went during this years festival. It's interesting, but you know, a bit industrial. Your best bet is to try to get in contact with someone at Diageo I reckon.
The maltings aren't that exciting, the PE (we tasted 2nd and 4th releases from memory) was what made it worthwhile.

Re: Tomintoul Whisky

I was lucky enough to tour Tomintoul during the Speyside festival '08. I have bottles of and like the Old Ballantruan and the 12y/o Oloroso finish. The 27 y/o is a cracking dram at the price (had a taster up at the Whisky Castle from memory). My wife and I also met the proprietors of Tomintoul (Angu...
