Most overated whisky

Well its got to be Macallan for me but let me be specific, Macallan of say the last 10 years as I think the old stuff is great.

What does everyone else think and no I am not a Macallan Basher.

Whiskybase The Gathering Rotterdam 2018

I went over for the 2 days on 21st & 22nd October to Rotterdam and had a really good time, 1500- 2000 whiskies to sample from depending on who you talk to with plenty of knowledgeable people there. Some great drams available if you had deep pockets but also some very reasonably priced stuff to, ...

Spey Cast Old Highland Liqueur Scotch Whisky 70 proof, Jas Gordon & Co

Nose 91 A classic old sherried blend this one, more on malt that grain. Bubble gum, black currant, and hints of raspberry, Ribena drink, red wine, is this whisky or a sherried fruit cordial. Some OBE here and definitely for the better , I just hope it has translated to the palate as I also detect a ...

Re: Jolly Toper tastings program Jan. - July 2018

So the big mystery : it was all blends. Perhaps wrongly I assumed poor attendnace for a tasting built around blended whisky. As it happened 26 of us took the plunge. I wasn't sure how long to keep the connection between the drams secret but we lasted until the final pour. There was some good guesse...

Same as my last answer JT (www), I usually do not like Ardbeg profile but in the last 2 years I have had a few that have almost got to 90 points, so now Ardbeg is officially not quite as a crap as I thought it was (I will put my hard hat on now) :)

Re: Speyburn 1975 37 year Clan Cask cask 3413 55.4% OB

It was available only to members of the Clan Cask originally and only in the UK but then put out on line, I got one of the last bottles in September as a present and it was £250 which for a 37 year single cask OB is excellent. I have used it as a benchmark malt when comparing other so called great s...

Re: Does anyone think Macallan is good value these days?

Interesting question - you've perhaps tasted more of Macallan than I have so I suspect a comparison of old versus new based on your extensive experience has value. I'm personally a fan of sherry cask matured whisky so Macallan generally works. I'd have to say I've had a lot of enjoyment from the 10...

Does anyone think Macallan is good value these days?

It is a simple question in all honesty , my answer is an emphatic no. Macallan has been trading on past glories for far too long, yes its older stuff up to roughly 1980 distillate could be truly excellent but the quality is not there anymore and their prices reflect those glory days not the below pa...

Speyburn 1975 37 year Clan Cask cask 3413 55.4% OB

Color Burnt umber Nose Powerful sherry and hard to describe but what I would call earthy. There is some cigar smoke, chocolate , blackberry, plum pudding, figs, and treacle toffee. Taste A massive and intensive dark fruit blast, almost like a smoothie. Very creamy one of the most full fat type of pa...

Skackletons blended malt 40%, an easy sipper, not complex but enjoyable all the same and worth buying £25-£35 depending on where you shop?

Nose You can smell the wood here and very old cherry of course. Burnt treacle, balsamic glaze, dark fruit jams, dark plum skins.
