Re: A'Bunadh a Single Cask...

Larry,

I can tell you without doubt that A'bunadh is a vatting of a selection of butts and NOT a single cask. The labelling issue has been noted by Chivas Brothers and is being looked at.

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

Ganga,

There is a good percentage of sherry in 18yo but probaly less than most people think, it take a lot less to influence a vatting than people think.

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

Tim,

At present there are no plans to look at anything younger at present. Our focus is on the core range as it stands at present, we have tagets we are looking to achieve first.
In 8 years we have gone from 275K 9lt cases to over 600K 9lt cases last year so we have to concentrate on the core range.

I have sampled some 1960's sherried Glenlivets with Euan Shand from Duncan Taylor out of his stock. He has as good a selection as another company I know of and the vast majotiry are very good.

Tim,

I think Nadurra has gone a long way in raising the awareness of The Glenlivet. In some countries it has been amazing, in Sweden around 60% of our sales in goverment stores are Nadurra.

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

Ganga, There are no 100% sherry matured versions apart from Cellar Collections. I have a dramming cask I use at the distillery that is a 1979 butt and is fantastic. Very rich, spicy and dark chocolate, add a citrus creme brulee and you are just about there. Its a light new make and we have to be car...

Nadurra is all about American Apple Pie. Cinammon, cream, vanilla, red apples and a lovely malty overtone. Sometimes a little citrus on the finiash too.

The 1969 Cellar Collection is all about breakfast marmalade for me. A mix of sweet orange with a more bitter lemons. It has the oak in the background to add some backbone to it.

Hi Tim,

0606A, its hard to believ its nearly 4 years since the first batch was done. No plans to change anything with it either. 1 or two other things in the pipeline after Truimph also.

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

Its sometimes a little frustrating as so many people only see the 12yo but some of the other age statements hold up against anything.
Have to admit to a little bias naturally but do believe in the whiskies.

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

Once I get the casks to 3 years I will look at how much is still in it and see if we can use some for tasting at shows. The other way around things would be to create a "Living Cask".

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

I always think of the 12yo as an aperifit. Those fresh crisp fruity notes just liven the palate. Also works well with smoked salmon or seafood.

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

The first cask will be 3 years old in February next year then we will be able to have a good look at it. I'm a little concerned about evaporation from the small cask.
Its made from re-fill bourbon so shouldn't have too much effect on the whisky.

Its only a 25lt still so a much oiler, heavier liquid. Still the classic Glenlivet fruity notes coming through. Its going into a selection of 30lt casks that I have in a dunnage warehouse at the distillery, very much work in progress.

Re: Glenlivet Live Tasting Event, May 14-16, 2010

Ganga,

Have developed a liking for the new Truimph, just find it a little creamier and more robust than the standard Nadurra. Started doing some things with the new 1973 Cellar Collection which is just stunning.
Still a case for the standard 18yo as my everyday dram.

Come down from the cold north for a dram or two. I'm down to come over for the event. Part of the visit is all about a product launch so I expect to be on Masterclass duty somewhere along the line.

Ken, Distilleries will always sell their company range of products but as James is nearly a 200 mile drive away its not ideal I would say. When I said not for sale in the UK I meant in retail outlets across the country, it may be possible to pick it up in specialist retailers but not in the mini siz...

Rufus, Sorry to say that Faemussach wont be available for sale. It was an experiment last year with Eclipse, successful as it was we aren't in a position to repeat it. Re: biggest and smallest (legal) distilleries

The liquid produced by both Jim Cryle and myself from the Glenlivet Sma' Still is now ageing in 30lt casks in a dunnage warehouse at the distillery. Its certainly producing whisky but would never dream of claiming to be the smallest distillery. Every still is an experiment at one time or another dur...
