Costco Macallan deals & more

Here in AZ there is a new Kirkland Macallan 17yr bottling. I did not purchase a bottle and was hoping to find others opinions. Sorry I forgot exact price but I think it was $65ish. I'm sure, though, that the Macallan 15yr Fine Oak has a $10 coupon at the store. When you walk in they have a coupon bo...

Re: What are you drinking now?

Battlehill Auchentoshan looks interesting. Let us know what you think. Glenhaven Benromach 17, 1978, 62.3 Auchentoshan has a grassy, almost agave-like nose. No, it's not a dirty tequila glass that I'm using. On the palate it has a good dose of malty sweetness with some misc. herbal qualities. Time ...

I haven't had doublewood in a few years but I remember the chocolate-orange already mentioned, and woody flavors in general with some sherry sweetness. I never remembered it being hot, flabby and sucking.

Poured a healthy dram of Leapfrog QC.

I might have to pour a Lagavulin 16 to compare side by side - you know, to keep things somewhat academic. I wouldn't want to digress into "drinking".

Re: replacement for 15yr longmorn reccomendations?

I know my post is too late as well, but I wanted to second the opinion that there is no close substitute. The Longmorn 15 had a pleasant shortbread cookie-like malt sweetness that I've not found in any other malts whatsoever. I truly miss it. Maybe there's a faint resemblance in that Glenlivet Frenc...

Re: What are you drinking now?

Now that I think about it, it is odd to say that it had old Macallan charm because this bottle is Bourbon/Port, with no sherry at all. Back in the late 1990's when I would buy Macallan 18yr for around $40 (the 1970's vintages, which were far better than the current bottles) they would have some of ...

The Balvenie

Laphroaig
Ardbeg

WORST: Glenmorangie's new bottles. Yuck. They look like some metrosexual bottle design. Give me the old manly Glenmorangie please.

I had a chance to retry the JWG last night. This from a 1 liter duty free instead of a 200 ml bottle. I will say I enjoyed it more. Vatting may have been different as these were many years apart. Still I'd rather get something else. AZ, think about the black and the blue. When I mean gold I will sp...

Yes but at some point it becomes more collectable than sought after for consumption. The whisky level will slowly go down and the cork may likely start to break apart.

Just drink it. These aren't baseball cards.

Good evening Sean and others. I'm doing a head to head dram session of Talisker 175 vs. 18yo OB. The 175 is far more delicate, and although a good dram, I lean to the 18 for its pepper profile. I can't believe that I wrote that... a delicate Talisker? :?

Occasionally I experience some of your stated discomforts as well. Try to have malt whisky as a digestif so there's a full stomach of other stuff in there (empty stomach dramming can be rough on the tummy). Generous side portions of water can help sometimes, and is good for cleansing the palate and...

Good evening.

I'm enjoying a wee nightcap of Jameson 18yr again. This whiskey is worth trying, but I will probably not acquire a backup bottle. Too many from Scotland that are preferable to me.

A nice, easygoing dram though.
