Re: Whisky Live London 2011

Just to say to Rob et al, it was a good event this year, seems like some of the sparkle is coming back to WL. New venue is very good, and really nice to seem some new exhibitors. Many thanks to the lady (who's name I sadly have forgotten but may be the new Pippa), who spent most of the event running...

Re: Whisky Live VIP?

Quick follow-up for this, I'd say for the London venue the extra £31 for the VIP on balance wasn't worth it. The VIP lounge was up two flights of stairs, so was away from the main throng of the Whisky event, and consisted of a comfortable room with chairs and coffee. Food seemed nearly identical to ...

I notice for WL London a new category of ticket has appeared - "VIP". From the descriptions the difference from a standard ticket appears to be: - 2 extra vouchers - Access to the VIP lounge - VIP Dining - VIP Entertainment - Goodies [All] this for an extra £31! For me the vouchers are unl...

Highland Park 10YO Whisky Live edition

Someone's out to make a tidy profit - don't think they'll get it though:

Ebay item 200451038646

£375 - for a bottle he probably paid £45, less than a month ago

Re: Limited edition bottle of whisky

Bottled in 2005, and the Whisky Exchange sold the last of their stock for a touch over £100. There's a site in Poland that appears to still be selling them for the equivalent of £200. Unless you really love sherried welsh whisky (an acquired taste), I'd flog it, and use the proceeds to buy a couple ...

Re: Whisky Live London 2010 (26-27 Feb)

My report is that it was a goodish show, but not great. Not a patch on the early days, but sadly with the increase in the number of whisky events throughout the calendar, and ever increased costs of exhibiting, it's inevitable. Highlights from the show for me were the people. Having an animated conv...

Hi Pippa, How definitive is the list of exhibitors now? It's good to see Glenfiddich (I hope they remember to pack the Balvenie) and Edrington returning. And In Spirit Brands (que?) could this be Buffalo Trace making a suprise return visit incognito? Can we safely assume that the following are no-sh...

Re: Whisky Live London 2010 (26-27 Feb)

Is this a first? I do not remember special bottlings last year. There have been a few exclusive / special bottlings in the past. Last year there was the Compass Box Optimism (bottled on site), and the year before there was the memorable Glenlivet Eclipse. I have a vague recollection of Suntory doin...

Re: Whisky Show London 6th-7th Nov

The goody bag was a huge disappointment - not even a large bottle of water. As I was leaving I asked where I collect my goody bag from, and was told - you are carrying it! However the event itself was very good. Very nice, relaxed, plenty of time to sip, talk and chat without being jostled by people...

Re: Your fantasy whisky list

The problem with list 1 is that a lot of the whiskies people have listed are either from the Diageo all pervading "classic malts" or common place on supermarket shelves. It's like going to a good restaurant and having "Jacobs Creek" on the wine list. It isn't necessarily a bad wi...

If it helps anyone, the Evening Standard are from today running a 2 for 1 offer for attending the Whisky Show. If you split the cost with a friend, at £50 with a decent meal (not just chewy meat in a bread roll), a goodie bag (with real goodies in it), and no whisky vouchers, it's IMHO very good val...

Re: Restaurant with Whisky - London?

eggs & laddie thanks for the info. Green's sounds great, but looking at the prices we'd be hard pushed to eat well with a glass of house wine for under £100 a head. A whisky bill on top would probably bankrupt the company! Your recent review of Albannach is very helpful, but sadly disappointing!...

Restaurant with Whisky - London?

I've been tasked with organising a meal out in London for ten work colleagues. I know a few of them are whisky lovers so thought it would be a good opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. I dusted off an old copy of whisky mag (prob circa 2007) when Boisdale near Victoria was a Whisky Icon, an...

Surely it's the personalised metal Guardian card you need. The key is for when you visit the distillery!

Alternatively, find Ian and keep him talking when he has a bottle or two of good stuff in his hand - seems to work wonders every year!

Wow that must have been gathering dust on the shelf for a while! I wonder if the 100 degrees proof will get changed to 114.2 degrees proof as it crosses the Atlantic? Doesn't quite have the same ring though!

Just out of interested, is the Corryvreckan bottled at cask(s) strength, or has it been a little dilluted down to make it 100 degrees proof?

Bowmore Darkest is a classic Smoke and Sherry whisky, though not to my tastes.

Depending on how much subtlety you want a 10YO Talisker presses all the right peat, smoke, sherry buttons for me in a nicely balanced, unbrash way!
