Re: What's your pride & joy?

You ever gonna drink that AVB? Or just keep it and stare at it in the wooden box. People who collect whisky instead of drinking it amuse me. The possibility of a stroke etc etc makes collecting whiskyt absurd in the exteme, because you never know. Do you? Drink it, or know that someone who appreciat...

Re: LCBO is toying with my emotions!!

I agree, JW Green is excellent. I've been buying it a lot lately, however if Diageo is pulling JW Green from our market, it would be unwise to go around telling people how great it is. A bit late for that. LOL

So ppl don't worry about JW Green, buy a similarly priced SMS instead, like Bowmore 12. LOL

Diageo pulling whisky from Canada

Can anyone find out exactly what Diageo is pulling from the Canadian market and what indeed they are pulling entirely from Canada?
I heard JW Green label will be pulled from the entire Canadian market and I don't understand how this is possible or even probable.

Thanks all.!

I doubt Diaego will pull any JW product from Ontario. I can see them doing it to a small province like New Brunswick but surely not Ontario.

Re: Guess what is back at the LCBO?

Is this the new A10 bottling? If so, what do you think of it compared to the old one? I am undecided which I think is the better. The new one has more citrus notes than the old, but the old has more peat-power in my opinion. I am pretty sure it's the new 10. You are asking the people that need to p...

Re: Favorite All Around Whiskey

I feel your pain. Sadly, I too cannot afford to drink SMS all the time. I've been drinking Johnnie Walker Green Label for a while now, or should I say regularly. At 59 bucks CDN for a bottle, it's not too taxing on the wallet, and still a bit "higher up there" than the grain/malt blends li...

I also use the Riedel glass. I love it.

I'm just not a fan of long stemmed glasses for nosing or tasting whisky. Just doesn't seem appropriate, seems "too french" for a "scottish product." However when have you seen a stemmed cognac glass?

Vatted Malts, experiences?

This topic is mainly for those who would like to clarify and offer their own insight and opinions on vatted malts. I thought about this topic after realizing that I've been returning to Johnnie Walker Green Label quiet often, especially as of late, and indeed bought another bottle just last night. T...

I agree with what has been mentioned above. I'm an alcoholic, and I love my SMS, but the Laphroaig QC just didn't cut it with me.

I would try the Balvenie 12, Aberlour 12, or Highland Park 12. These are all exceptional and will be well received.

Re: Scotch in Canada gaining popularity @ the expense of Bourbon

If these "bourbon drinkers" are fond on Jim Beam and JD they don't know what the hell they are doing. I don't think JD is even a bourbon. It's a sour mash.

Jim Beam white label is horrible straight, the black is acceptable. JD is gut rot.

Re: How much time do you spend deciding on your next whisky?

It varies. I spend a lot of time doing research on what I drink beforehand. If I hear a certain SMS or less often a blend, highly recommended by certain individuals here, I will research the brand and then perhaps buy a bottle. Usually, especially as of late, I try to follow what other members of th...

Re: What about Forty Creek?

I still have to try this because it has been recommended by so many people. I think my best bet is to sample it in a bar first though. I finally finished my Laph QC yello. It's the smoke I am not fond of. Too much smoke.

Re: Scotch in Canada gaining popularity @ the expense of Bourbon

Once in a while if I have a stronger bourbon I will add a little ice. Knob Creek is an example of a bourbon I will often add ice to. I dislike Maker's Mark. Jack Daniel's is bloody atrocious straight. I will admit that I am fond of JD and coke, but if I have more than 1, I begin to feel the gut rot....

Grant's is one of those funny cheaper blends. They make a sherry cask, ale cask, and I think the standard. I prefer FG, and even J&B to Grant's. The only thing I hate worse than Grant's is the standard Ballantine's. :yuk:

If you are looking for a cheap blend stick with Teacher's.
