Being from Ohio which is a hard state to get bottles it is nice to be able to have a good selection easilyavailable, shipping isn't too much and I beleive if you ask they will send y...

I was at Whisky live JoBurg a few years back and it was packed as well great showing and a really good show, I could imagine that Cape Town was great time as well. Re: Pleasure/price ratio for choosing a whisky

Alot of what drives me is trying something new, if I was just going for what I like I could stick with 4-5 different scotches that are easy to get and inexpensive but to me the joy of scotch is trying new and exciting drams. So I will pay extra to try something different even if it isn't any better ...

Re: Monthly Tasting Event - Advice Please...

Growing the collection of open bottles is one goal but we have agreed to do this every month and 4-5 bottles a month will do that quickly, I think charging a small amount to offset what is drank will be my best bet and also keep everyone happy, I already have a better selection than any bar in Cleve...

Monthly Tasting Event - Advice Please...

Hello all I have started a monthly tasting group here in Cleveland Ohio and I need some advice. Currently we are in our second month and so far I have provided the bottles because I'm really trying to get people in the area interested in scotch. The first tasting was a huge success. While there were...

Re: How many open bottles do you normally have?

I cured my OCD by starting a monthly tasting session, not a lot of scotch fans here in Cleveland Ohio but the interest has been good, I have 4 regulars and a few others interested in learning. I've started with alot of basic bottling that I may have not bought and opened otherwise. It also gives me ...

Re: advice on oldest inexpensive top scotch

Most people also don't understand that where the whisky is being aged and the temperature variations has a huge affect on the final product, more happens in 5 years to a Bourbon (wood interaction) because of the temerature variations than will happen to most scotches in 20 years. A heavily packed wa...

Re: advice on oldest inexpensive top scotch

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but I personally think age is overated, I'll take 12 yrs in a good barrel over 25 yrs in a poor barrel. Now 25 yrs in a good barrel will ussually be better than 12 yrs in a good barrel (Depending on the distillery) until you try the scotch it is sometimes hard...

I just tried this last Sat, the bartender poured me a large pour and well all I can say is it was a struggle to finish, I believe its a 5yr old Bowmore and I was not a fan, It just seemed really flat with an off finish to it. I guess you get what youy pay for in this case.

Laphroaig 10 used to be my everyday drinking Islay because of the price (<$30.00) a bottle now its up closer to $50.00 a bottle. Re: How many open bottles do you normally have?

Hmm interesting thought I had, I was counting what I had open and looked in the cupboard and saw all the sample bottles I have, if I counted all of them I would have as many open as closed, I guess I need to inventory them and figure out the true number. (BTW I pour 2 10cl samples of most bottles I ...
