Re: Are you a Whisky Drinker or a Whisky Collector?

Been a long time gents. I've left Japan. Wonderful country. Terrible laws regarding children and custody when things can't be reconciled. I've landed back in the states, and am raising two small children by myself. I appreciate those that say whisky should be consumed and not hoarded, their sentimen...

I just purchased Ichiro Malt 15. If they still have the two of diamonds, i'll snag that next Saturday.

Re: Are you a Whisky Drinker or a Whisky Collector?

I have to admit to collecting. Specifically, I'm picking up bottles of Ichiro's malt, the card series. I tell myself that it's for my retirement. Someday, when I'm back in the States, if they have increased dramaticaly in value, I'll sell them (except the king of diamonds... :D I have three of them ...

Hi guys. been a while since i've been on the boards. Since I'm in Japan, (probably not CHEAPLY available outside) I would have to go with Nikka's from the barrel. It is only around $12 here for the 500ml and very smooth. I think its much better than the Nikka black that has been mentioned in other s...

I had a nice day off sipping some different whiskies. I had Smokehead, Redbreast 12, Macallan 10 cs, and Nikka "straight from the barrel". A very enjoyable afternoon.

I guess my collection started this year because living in Japan, whisky is so cheap that I bought bottles that (to me) would be unaffordable in the states. Then I got started on Japanese whisky. The Yoichi and Hakushu were my first local drams, and since I've found that they are VERY unreasonable ou...

I picked up Redbreast 12 and Ichiro malt 10 of spades. I have to admit to myself somehow I've become a collector. The Redbreast is for drinking, and the 10 of spades is going into my collection, or what I would prefer to think of as my retirement whisky.

I finally got a bottle of redbreast 12. I'd been wanting to taste it for a while. There is something different about potstill that I really like. It's an 'oily' really 'wet' whisky. I can taste orange peel and oak. I've only had a few drams, so I'm going to take my time with this one and savor it. T...

Sadly, I've never drank a Brora, I guess that is the one i've heard so many people rave about, but I think I would want to reopen the Hanyu distillary in Karuizawa Japan. I've had some interesting whisky from there, the ichiro malt 15, the king of diamonds, and recently the Ichiro's choice "pea...

I took a leap of faith and shelled out a bit for three bottles of Ichiro's Peated Golden Promise. I've found that with these small runs, I usually only get one shot at them. I waited for three days for it to go on sale thinking I'd pick up two and if I liked it, get another. When I got off work and ...

Hey Badmonkey...or anyone else going through Narita... make sure you check out one of the duty free shops. They have Hakushu 12 for 4,000 something yen. It's cheaper than shinanonya or kawachi...(the one in shibuya) Actually, it's the cheepest i've ever seen, as it is usually just under 7,000 have a...

pure black

Yes, after Badmonkey suggested it, i found the pure black and picked up a bottle. It's really reasonable at around $12 for the 500ml bottle and it is quite good. I've gotta agree with the Virgina Gentlemen. Bowmore 17, followed by "mariner". To be fair, the first time I had "mariner" i liked it. The 17, I came back to until a third was gone and then gave it to a friend, who, by the way...loved it.
