Re: Rock music themed tasting

Revisted the Highland Park over the weekend and standing alone it does have some subtle qualities, a touch of sweetness and an all round poise which might have been lost on the night. More Simon and Garfunkel than Slade.

Re: Rock music themed tasting

Well I think the rock tasting went okay. It wasn't on Stadium scale, more a cosy affair with just a dozen of us (I blame the Campbeltown & Islay festivals). We started with a 70s/80s blend 'Crazy Horse' which despite not showing too well when opened a few days before it seemed to hit the spot fo...

Recommendations for a good Jura

I've been charged with sourcing a high quality expression of Isle of Jura. Budget is preferrably under £100 but an extra £20-£30 is manageable if worth it. It can be either an independent or official bottling but given availability is important obscure and/or historic bottlings from single casks mig...

Good stuff. Sandy MacNab would have had a fair chunk of Lochside in it, yum. We had a 70s Old Smuggler which was very good - Bunnahabhain a big part I think. We've 70s Bells and JW to try blind against the current versions, it'll be interesting to see if people report a big difference and to see if ...

Some of us (most?) have some distilleries/brands that just don't work for us. If you have a pet hate producer is there a bottling that you had to admit was quality?

Interesting question - you've perhaps tasted more of Macallan than I have so I suspect a comparison of old versus new based on your extensive experience has value. I'm personally a fan of sherry cask matured whisky so Macallan generally works. I'd have to say I've had a lot of enjoyment from the 10y...
