Re: White spirits liked by predominantly whisky drinkers

Nothing special about Bombay Sapphire IMO. You want to try Hendricks - now that's different and very good.. Plymouth is my usual gin though. Nick you're spot on with the Hendricks. Especially good with Fever Tree tonic water and a slice of cucumber. Yep I did say cucumber. :) Cucumber? You crazy ca...

My curiosity got the better of me; I've never had this before. I hope it doesn't dissapoint but I can see me taking a sip and hating the rest of the bottle.

It's much more interesting than the 10yo, imo. Have you tried it yet, and did it disappoint?

Re: ISSUE 80 IS OUT NOW

The Whisky Bars booklet lists The Malt Lounge in Windermere, which sounds like a whisky bar but it's actually an off-licence called Windermere Wine Stores. I think it just uses Malt Lounge as a website name for its shops in Windermere & Ambleside.

Re: Help! First major purchase...

Hi Vanessav27 and welcome. I'd be happy to drink any of those bottles, but whether they're actually good bottles depends on why are you starting a collection. Are these bottles you intend to drink, or are you collecting in the hope they significantly increase in value, or is there another reason for...

I keep the box whilst the bottle's open, then when it's empty I recycle bottle & box. Some tins I've used for storing plant bulbs. And I have an Edradour SFTC coffin full of hair bands and clips. There's just something about those coffins makes you want to hoard things in them, isn't there TheTr...

Re: Whisky Festivals - tips?

Before you go, try to find out what distilleries will be there so you can decide which stands you definately want to visit. And go to those ones first, while your palate's clean and your thoughts are clear. And make notes, even though you know it's nerdy :)

I've lost the plot with the monthly tastings :o I only bumped into the last one by accident. Would it be possible to sticky a list of dates & distilleries at the top of the live tastings board, for those of us with very small memories and the inability to scroll through threads to find when tast...

Do you mean as well as higher strength the Hazmats have better flavours? I like very woody bourbons best, ones that are all leather and tobacco and big oak. Elijah Craig is my favourite up until today, but maybe I'll find another favourite through this tasting.

Hi Ganga. I usually drink bourbon without ice but sometimes when I buy a new bottle I mess about with bourbons, when I wouldn't with single malt. Sometimes with ice, or sometimes I stick it in the freezer and see what occurs. I think it's a good way to explore them, especially if my palate gets bour...
