Re: Why on the Rocks?

Nothing wrong with adding ice to common whisky in general.

Some people go further and add other ingredients to mix with their whisky and make cocktails. Of course doing these things with a single malt or other premium whisky is hand waving.

Re: One from Each Region

From someone from Ontario, I studied the prices in great depth. Lowland - Auchentoshan 12 - good price relative to other markets at $45 Islay - Laphroaig QC or Bowmore 12 are also great prices Island - Talisker 10 price isnt so bad, HP 12 goes on sale periodically $5 off. There are lots of Highlands...

Re: Saving a few drams in smaller bottles?

Actually, after I received samples from another member here, drank them, and left the sample bottles unrinsed, closed and empty the padding was starting to deteriorate over a year time. Those bottles were actually pretty good. I stored another whisky in it and removed that padded part. I usually use...

Re: Smelling whisky residue. Anyone else have this habit?

Yes! There are some people that after they have their drams and write notes, they also investigate what the empty glass the next morning brings. Some of us do that. I dont anymore and end up washing the glasses when Im done.

Re: The Senses and Whisky Enjoyment

We know what people like Jazz Lover like to do best while they drink whisky if they seem to have a void in that category. When I have my whisky with ice and/or ginger ale (yes, thats right I said ICE) it is a noisier drink. Of course I don't do this with single malts. Maybe it plays a small part in ...

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.

The Balvenie Signature, batch 3. Just picked it up at the local LCBO and it's already slated for de-listing! Honestly, I don't know where their heads are when it comes to hard liquor, especially single malts. A pretty daft bunch running the LC from Toronto, in my opinion. An Increduloue Muskray Por...

In Ontario we got 300 cases that were released last Saturday. Not US bottlings though however they are retailing for $35 CAD! For that price they are going pretty fast so if you have a source or reason to be in Ont. you might be able to do a quick one. If its being released there at similar prices t...

Re: Pleasure/price ratio for choosing a whisky

Its hard with ratios because pleasure/price isnt linear unless you graph log(pleasure)/log(price), but I think its inverted anyway. Typically when the price (x) goes from, lets say $40 to $100 there are units of pleasure(y). Put those same units of pleasure into the equation and start with $100, you...

Hi Peter!

Yes, I live just off of Yonge street. :D farthest Ive been on that highway is Hearst.

For Canada as a whole, I find the maritime provinces are the best as far as prices are concerned.

I dont really take notes. I never read notes...I dont know why I bothered taking them in school either. I make notes for other people at work all the time though. Re: Laphroaig quarter cask: inconsistencies between the batc

Hi, last August, I bought a bottle of laphroaig quarter cask at the big LCBO in Ottawa. I had already tasted it some times before. It found it to be a little like the 10y but mellower and more complex. However, when I opened my bottle, I was a bit disappointed. It seemed to me that it was much more...

Re: The Cardhu Bubble

Y2M, it would seem that this would be the older bottlings of Cardhu. I'm not sure how comparable the malts are from the two time periods. Anyone tried the newer bottlings? Lucas, the $35 price tag is quite comparable to many of the lower priced single malts here. Madness is the pricing on the older...

Re: The Cardhu Bubble

This thread is no longer accurate.

I have seen the Cardhu drop at the stores Bruichladdict was posting about 50 bucks at a time from 200 to 150 to just over 100.

I think the final was just over $100 and they managed to move their last bottles out and it is now not listed.
