1x -- Wilson & Morgan 5yo 'Peaty Five' (43%) 1x -- Ardbeg 'Corryvreckan' (57.1%, L10 168): Hope this newer bottling is as good as the 2009. The L9 166 was my 'Whisky of the Year' for 2010. 2x -- Ardbeg 'Renaissance' (55.9%, L8 121): For my money the best of the Path to Maturity bottlings. Bought...

Re: What are you drinking now?

After a break of six months, starting back slowly with a Wilson & Morgan 5yo 'Peaty Five' (43%). Lots of smoke, but also seems kind of harsh and thin.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan (L9 166). I'm really picking up the bacon notes here tonight. A gorgeous malt! :)

Re: Highland Park 21 (47.5% abv)

I believe when it was available a couple of years back that it sold for over a $100 (someone else here can give you a more exact equivelant in US dollars). It's stunning whisky to be sure and was my personal Whisky of the Year last year. I think Whisky Mag gave it top single malt honors two years ag...

Re: What's your latest bottle kill?

A couple of weeks ago killed off an Ardbeg 10 9 (L9 323) and Laphroaig 10yo CS (L8 282). Both really great bottles and both reminded me why I love SMS so much.

Re: What are you drinking now?

Wilson & Morgan 5yo 'Peaty Five' (43%). After three weeks off to pursue other interests, getting things started again with this little puncher. Real good value at 17 euros as long as one doesn't expect the depth and complexity of some of the Islay's older OBs.

Laph QC here

Its like nothing else.... except last years release. I think its superb whisky - puts a light sweat on the brow!

Do you prefer it over the Corryvreckan and Uigeadail (year?)?

Continue to enjoy the Ardbeg 10 (L9).

Ardbeg 10 (750ml, L9 323). Seems thinner than the L5 batch I recently had, but that famous Ardbeg taste is still there. This bottle should be quite enjoyable.

Lagavulin 12yo 2009 (57.9%, 750ml, L9 054)... Hi Ardbeg311, how much did you pay for it? Did you by it in Italy, in a shop or via internet? I bought Lagavulin 12yo 2008 but 700ml and I paid it only 40€, a great deal I think  tnx Hi matteo, At 40€ you pretty much stole it. Great find! T...

2 tulip long-stemmed glasses that were on sale for $5 each. Looks identical to the Riedel Vinum Cognac Hennessey Glass. Good weight and 8" in height. Also picked up at a yard sale an old, medium-sized, heavy brandy snifter that cleaned up quite nicely. Will have to compare both with my current ...

Amrut 'Fusion'. Tried this several times over the weekend, and it was a big hit with some family and friends. There is a lot of flavor with this one. Still, I'm finding that I'm trying too hard to find a reason to buy another. Maybe it will be more of a mood whisky for me.

Bunnahabhain 8yo (43%) MacPhail's Collection. Palate is not really fresh for good tasting notes, but it has a pleasing taste, a slight orangie kick to it that I normally don't like in whisky but which seems right here. Candyish in the finish. Good.

Re: What are you drinking now?

My first taste of Laphroaig 10 CS, 55.7% (pre- Batch 1). Normally I would try a new whisky on a fresh palate, but it just seemed natural to follow the original 10. Pretty tasty stuff. Normally cask strength whiskies aren't my thing, but this is definitely tolerable neat. It's really just an un-rest...

Re: What are you drinking now?

A vacation afternoon with a little Highland Park 8yo (43%, G&M 'The MacPhail's Collection'). The intial taste reminds me a lot of the Macallan 8yo FO in that it is very sweet and buttery. It pulls away from the Mac with its spice/rum-like finish, reminiscent of a recent Tomatin that I had. There...

Glendronach 12yo. Because I miss terribly the old Giovinetti Mac 12yo, the newer Macallan 12yo is not that good, and the Glendronach 15yo 'Revival' is great stuff. So we are going to take our chances with this 2009+ bottling (which was also at a fair price).

Glenfarclas 17: spicey, hot, some sherry. I've never been overly thrilled with this to begin with, but it seemed even less enjoyable than the last time. Definitely of the opinion that the 15yo is the better of the two.

Though not a sherry monster (but your question doesn't say it must be), I will once again recommend Longrow CV. A fair number of those who like Islays also like Longrow --- a peaty whisky without the smoke. I know some of the 10yo and 'finishes' (stay away from the Tokaji bottling!) have been kind o...
