Re: Imitation Lagavulin 16 (?)

The Whisky Live Tokyo is being held in a couple of weeks, could I take it to a Diageo sales rep and ask him to sample it for me, or is that a bad idea? I think that is a good idea, if you don't mind carrying it around. If the bottle is tainted or corked (it does happen on rare occasions) the rep ma...

Re: Where can I buy Whiskey Without Dyes Online?

There are plenty of natural colour scotch whiskies already there in the US, all over the place. What sort of whisky profile are you wanting?

Fyi the only permitted colour is e150a, one of the caramel colours.

Re: Can I taste different regions whiskeys together?

I have recently embarked upon my whiskey journey and would like to sample Scottish whiskies from different regions to understand the main differences. 1) To start with, I am considering sampling whiskies that are most disparate in terms of their tasting notes profile. My logic is, if I favour, say,...

Re: Islay Storm

The bottling company for Islay Storm is C. S. James And Sons Ltd, co owned with another company called Highlands & Islands Scottish Whisky Company Ltd. who bottles The Ileach range of malt whiskies. In the early days of (the quite brilliant) The Ileach the strong rumours were it was a young Laga...

Cod and kale, with roasted cherry toms, onion, and olives. Served with a homemade turnip and red cabbage 'slaw and Miltonduff 14 CSE. They didn't go well together but i didn't let it bother me.

All of us. Over time as the palate develops it will occur less often. Many things can affect the palate, what you've consumed through the day for example, or if you wear too much cologne, hairspray, or perfume. :D

Re: Islay malt from an unnamed distillery?

There are times when a few barrels don't age the way they should, and, instead of dumping the whisky down the drain, the distillery will sell it to independent bottling companies for next to nothing. :o Not quite. Superfluous casks will be sold to blenders and brokers. Blenders will also acquire ca...

Re: Islay malt from an unnamed distillery?

Are bad batches more likely to occur with the likes of Glenfiddich and Glenlivet? Certainly not! Single malt whisky is very delicate as whiskies go, and they get most of the flavour from the cask. Occasionally a cask will be somewhat off or tainted, these casks will be vatted with other better cask...

"Also what does it taste and smell like?" -- Well not an easy answer, partly as the old 10yo (@ 40%) was enough to put me off for a lifetime and I have only had a healthy sample of the new 10yo (@ 46.3%). All i can say is that there was a huge improvement. There are good bracing coastal fl...

Re: What are you drinking now?

Yes Bredman , most of the later Bladnoch bottlings were Single cask just bottled as they needed them at the distillery . Originally they did send them to a bottler to do in batches but i guess it was more economical to do when they were needed especially as they had their own bottling machine . Tha...

Just finished an old sample of Bladnoch 18 55%. Did someone once say these were all single casks, dunno, but it seems identical to a much later bottling of this that i finished last week.

Anyway, moving onto some Astar. It's got the minty thing going on again. Loads of mint.

Re: Need help in dating my bottle of Old Parr

Asking when a whisky was bottled is hardly weird, in my country, we call it curiosity, especially when the bottle displays neither age, i.e. 12, 15 or even 18 yrs nor % of alc. Haha, don't pay Willie too much attention, he hasn't dated whisky for sometime and now prefers to sweep them of their feet...
