Re: what do HP 12 and Macallan 12 have in common?

Honey!! I agree with Ganga: heather honey! I find that the stronger elements in the HP 12 are the peat, the malt, a very well integrated wood perfume and honey. This deep honey taste you can find it in the Macalan. Then again, maybe the op is talking about something much more subtle. But like him, I...

Re: Best bang for buck everyday single malt

Macalan 12 is great, but a bit pricy here in Quebec, Canada. It's a bit more expensive now, and I haven't bought a bottle in a little while, but the Highland Park 12 was sold for $50 here! For a dram of this quality, it was an amazing deal, as far as I'm concerned. A good deal imo is also the Laphro...

Re: Your favourite 'basic' Glenmorangie

The Nectar d'Or really does it for me. Its French pastry, pate feuillete, cream perfumes are just fabulous. First time I had a bottle I practically had the whole thing all at once... Just a delight!

Re: Glenlivet Nadurra v Aberlour a'bunadh

Thanks, Ganga!
Of course, I meant that I'm not sure of my palate. Yet it works enough for pleasure! I'll check it out and try!

Re: Uigeadail Vs. HP18

Raw and rich whisky flavour of the Cask against the maturity of a classic. Guess this comes as a very late advice on my part. I'll just answer the question for fun's sake. I love the HP18! It's malt, honey and smoke well aged and in such harmony the whole mouth signs. For some reason, I imagine this...

Re: Glenlivet Nadurra v Aberlour a'bunadh

I'm not sure I could make the difference between batches. I've had A'bunadh regularly for a good while and I always love its ginger, cherry flavours. It's a very tough choice. I love Glenlivet in general but I admit Nadurra is a bit surprising, the first time. Yet, I still love it. I agree with what...

Re: FAVOURITE JOHNNIE WALKER LABEL

I sense a general mood not too favourable to the Red label. The price of whisky being quite high, here in Quebec (we pay a hidden tax of 40%), I always keep a bottle of Red label around, either to make drinks or to drink with ice during very torrid, summer evenings. I find it to be a good, easy drin...

Re: What color of bottle do you prefer for your whisky?

I'm your overly truthful type of guy, some would say "blunt" at times. I like transparency. I'm sensible to the argument that a tainted bottle could protect the whisky from the light but most comes in boxes... So I would definitely say clear, as a bottle preference. This being said, I wander if it w...

Re: Greatest Influence to Your Enjoyment

Allow me to make a saucy comparison. The nose represents the preliminaries and, as everyone knows, if you entertain any intention of creating any kind of build-up, you need a well felt and extended moment of "turning around the pot" -if you forgive the expression. The palate is like the pleasure in ...

Re: How much money do you spend on whisky each month?

Here, alcohol selling is controlled by the government. We pay a 40% hidden tax (yes, you read well). Nowadays I slowed down a little because of some health issues, but I used to go on whisky shopping sprees and buy 4 or 5 bottles at a time for sometime as much as $400 to $500 dollars. I wouldn't do ...

Re: Best Whisky To Drink With Coca Cola?

Jack Daniels and Coke, not a bad proposition indeed... Remember the Vanilla Coke? I use to like that cola. I rarely drink whisky with anything else, not even water, like most all of you. But when it does happen, I don't dislike mixing it with Crown Royal and lots of ice -in summer, for instance. It'...
