Re: Most underrated single malt?

Caol Ila 12

Funny that both Lagavulin and Caol Ila are both Diageo-owned Isla malts and I gave Lagavulin my most overrated and Caol Ila as most underrated opinions.

Lagavulin 16 and Distillers Edition. Way overpriced.

Re: Uigeadail Vs. HP18

I tried my first Uigeadail this week. Have never had HP18, but have had plenty of HP12 and if these were beers instead of malts, the Oogie would be like New Glarus Spotted Cow (from Wisconsin) and the HP12 would be like Coors Light :P Only two bottles of anything by Ardbeg (2 Oogies) have ever showe...

Re: Laphroaig 18yo or Ardbeg Uigeadail?

Sorry for reviving a 2-yr old thread, but I just tried the Ardbeg Uigeadail for the first time and absolutely fell in love. I've probably gone thru 4 or 5 bottles of Laphroaig 18 over the past couple years, it's been my favorite Islay peated malt by far. My local liqueur stores have never had any Ar...

Re: aberlour a'bunadh batch 27

Meanwhile, I'm off to explore the islands some more.... just picked up my first Talisker ever this evening, the basic 10 y/o , for tomorrow's New Year's Eve celebration and can hardly wait to try it out. :D And....?? And it did not last very long. Had to replace it the next weekend with a bottle of...

Black Bush - old Pernod Ricard vs Diageo bottlings

I recently found and bought a bottle of Black Bush that was bottled in 2005 (before Pernod Ricard sold BUshmills to Diageo) and came in the metal tube box. I find it to be a quite delicious Irish whiskey to sip. The liquor store that had it, has one more bottle of the same vintage left, and I was cu...

Re: Glass beads

Cheap solution is to just decant your open bottle of premium malt into a smaller glass container with a secure cap (even if that means a screw top with a gasket in it) so that you can store it with little or no trapped air in the new container above the liquid. It works. The whisky will keep quite w...

Cheers!

Same here on northern Texas! Just a wee dram of the T10 though, since it's a workday evening, and with an empty stomach waiting for my dinner to finish cooking, I dare not try to enjoy too big a glass

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA

Thanks for all the warm welcomes folks, The Talisker 10 was extremely good indeed, I also got to try some Bushmills Irish single malt 10 and some Lagavulin 16 for New Years and I have to admit the Bushmills was very impressive especially for its cost. Of course the Lag 16 has now spoiled me and now ...

Re: Best Abunad´h Batch

My bottle of #27 has now been sitting for about a full week about 50% full with air above the scotch in the bottle. It's either starting to lose the rubber-sulphur flavor or I'm becoming accustomed to the taste, but I just had another dram tonight and it's getting better. I also had about 2 oz of #2...

Re: U.S. members..Is SMS pricing itself out of your life?

I'll be paying the higher prices.... just buying much less frequently, and trying to be picky about what I buy. This is an expensive hobby, and I only just got into it this year as prices skyrocketed. But then, my other hobby is owning and flying a small antique Piper airplane  so my wallet i...

Re: Best Abunad´h Batch

I may be a malt newb, but I bought a bottle of #27 for Christmas based on all the glowing reviews for the earlier batches but I am disappointed with a sulphur / burned-rubbery aftertaste that's unpleasantly bitter. I've got about half the bottle left, so maybe letting it sit for a while with some ai...

Re: aberlour a'bunadh batch 27

I bought a bottle of batch #27 on Christmas Eve and also noticed a rubber/sulphury taste. A bit like burned rubber tires. This was my first ever bottle of a'bunadh and yeah, I guess I am a little disappointed in it :( Prior to that I bought a bottle of Aberlour 16/yo and have almost finished that on...
