Nice pics, Les! We had another "father and son day" around here, still lots of rain, no walk in the woods possible, so again bernstein jun. and me headed across the border into Belgium. We found a biiiiiggg Carrefour supermarket, a Glen Elgin 12yo OB (€27,50) and a Fettercairn 12yo OB (â...

Ben Nevis OB (1992-2005) #2614 632 bottles (Sherry-Butt) 13yo 46%, bottled for La Maison du Whisky. Perfect dram for you, Bernie--if I'm not mistaken (and Nick will tell me if I am), Ben Nevis is "mountain of heaven". As far as wikipedia knows a literal translation of beinn-neamh-bhathais...

Ben Nevis OB (1992-2005) #2614 632 bottles (Sherry-Butt) 13yo 46%, bottled for La Maison du Whisky. It's been a while since I had a sip of this, but it's splendid stuff as ever! Time has polished some of the sharper edges it had last year - but it shows even more complexity now. Intense nose, dark ...

:D Pete, a short answer would be of course: Whisky doesn't have to be blessed, it is a blessing in itself. But you could always get into deeper theological speculation. Anyway, a few of these and the symptoms will be but a distant hazy memory. And everything else, too! Whatever you choose, I recommend going peat-free. Sometimes peat seems to swell the sinuses. Cask-strength would be nice, but if you're going cheap, Powers is as good as anything. I disagree! Caught...

Opened another bottle last night: Arran Single Cask #1097 6/223 d. 04/10/1995 b. 07/11/2002 (Bourbon-Cask). I bought this one back in Spring 2005 and was just curious about it. To sum it up: It's a good Bourbon-Cask expression, it has an interesting dark coulour (Jim Beam?!?), on the palate it was f...

Littlemill 8yo OB 40% - what should I say. It's not as bad as I feared - but... something strange is going on here, the nose is disturbing, rubbery to say the least, "is it really a malt"? The palate is fresh, fruity, almost like that chewing gum I used to buy some 25 years ago. The finis...

It's interesting, for example, how many people are surprised by the character of Ardbeg's Airigh Nam Beist--the mere inclusion of the word "beast" (which is a word with more than one connotation) in the name leads them to make certain assumptions. I plea guilty as I tasted the Airigh Nam ...

My first couple of sips of Ardbeg (horribile dictu!) 16yo 1990 Airigh Nam Beist . A pleasant surprise. I was expecting something more "beastie" - read "wild, untamed", but this is IMO a well composed malt. The nose is Ardbeg, smokey and strong, but the palate has much more to off...

I would take a case of any Ben Nevis any time! All of their OBs I had the privilege to taste have been terrific and very special so far (10yo, 26yo, vintage 1992, 13yo Port Finish).
Even the Cadenhead's IBs I had were very exciting. A distillery to unearth, really.
