Re: WHOA! "The Irishman Original Clan!"

I was less impressed with "The Irishman". It may be 70% malt, but it is very young and rough around the edges to me. It does round out with a splash, but seems like a Power's or Bushmill's Original clone at a 50% premium, more marketing than anything.

Re: Which ONE do you "repeat" buy most often ?

I hope your tastes don't change over time Jimi! :o I've been drinking A10 for 5 years and my appreciation has only grown. I've spent a lot of $$ on variety but there's something to be said for tried and true favorites. I'm more concerned with losing interest in all drinks with 210 bottles bunkered....

Re: Which ONE do you "repeat" buy most often ?

Ardbeg Ten. It's the one bottle that always tastes great no matter my mood or palate condition. It normally runs $70+US but I found a couple places awhile back that had it for $39US, so I cleaned them out, went back a couple months later and cleaned them out again. Various years from L4-L9. I now ha...

Yea I looked at your site before I posted here to see how much info on the L9 was out there. I've been searching out L7 and earlier, I guess I just need to be more thorough and check the bottles like I do on Balvenie 15yo Single Barrels. :)

L9 Ardbeg Ten "old" packaging

I just picked up (4) L9 092 18:00 4ML Ardbeg 10yo with the same packaging as L7 and earlier. I thought the packaging changed when the post-glenmorangie spirit was released in '08. The only theory I can come up with is they had a bunch of 750ml U.S labels and boxes leftover to use up. I just opened i...

Nick, this might be a long shot but I know where one bottle is @ $243US if you know someone in the Dallas, Texas area. PM me for details. It's a '78-'03, 750ml with wooden box. It was there when I got mine a while ago and it still shows to be in their inventory.

Re: What are you drinking now?

Just opened the McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt Whiskey I picked up today. I had high hopes from the nearly all positive notes I'd read. This stuff is undrinkable. Aroma is all rubber and fly paper, the taste is more of the same. I feel like I just inhaled bug spray, I can't even finish the glass. I s...

On top of a couple Single Malts I tried a Ballantine's Finest last night. Now reviews have been all over the map, but I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. A little bit of everything, sweet/spice/grass/wood/smoke. Nicely balanced and for $16US for 1.75ml a good one to put in a decanter. I may have...

Re: Why so little product information on the Yamazaki 12yrs box?

Mine had a hang tag on the neck with info about the history of the distillery, but the box is kind of devoid of info about the whisky. Their web page tells a lot more. http://www.suntory.com/yamazaki/12and18year.html I agree it would be a good selling point for them although I don't know the signifi...

I've had a '90(13yo) & '91(12yo) Signatory Bladnoch. A lot like a Rosebank, lots of mint, toasted marshmallow and grassy sweetness. I haven't seen any around for years, sure hope they make a comeback, maybe an official bottling.

Re: Need advice: What to buy???

I can comment on the Glen Ord 30. It's a cask strength malty Highlander with a dry/grassy/mint profile but also earthy tones similar to a Brora. While it's very good it's no South Islay. The Laphroaig 30 really is special, but price has shot up recently ($239 to $489). The Glenfarclas 30 should be g...

Re: What did you drink last night?

I tried easing back into the fold after a 30 day self imposed sobriety with a 2008 Ironstone Cabernet Sauvignon. I guess I'm just not a wine guy, the toasted oak component was nice, but way too sour to get much else. I'm letting it breathe for a try another day. Back to Whisk(e)y tonight.

Re: Showdown of the cask strength Glens!

I have not noticed any batch variation in the Nadurra yet and I would still take it over the Astar even at the same price. They are both good but the Astar seems more like a beefed up 10yo, while the Nadurra has complexity and that fresh mint profile that sets it apart. Whichever you go for put the ...

Any word on when the Laphroaig 18yo gets a full roll out in the U.S., especially Texas? Only seen it listed on east and west coasts and Binny's in Chicago and there seems to be some price gouging going on between when it was first announced at $85 and some places as much as $160.
