New WhiskyCast.com web site up now!

Just wanted to let you know that after years of feedback about things you wanted to see changed with the WhiskyCast web site, we spent an entire year planning, indexing, and coding to create an all-new web site that launched over the weekend... It's completely searchable, from the podcast archives t...

By the way, I'll have an in-depth interview on Canadian whiskies with Davin de Kergommeaux of CanadianWhisky.org on this weekend's episode of WhiskyCast, along with some of his recommendations.

Re: Need Help Figuring Out Shipping to US from UK

Mozzie: Technically, what you're trying to do is illegal under US law. It's not legal to have whiskies shipped to you from overseas unless you hold a federal importer's license (which you can't qualify for unless you're actually in the business of importing alcoholic beverages). You can bring in as ...

Re: Canadian Whiskeys that taste good

I'd suggest you check http://www.canadianwhisky.org. It's published by Davin de Kergommeaux of the Malt Maniacs, and he'll certainly be able to steer you in the right direction. One I'd suggest you look for is Canadian Club Sherry Cask. It takes CC in a different direction, and is very drinkable on ...

Hard to say, but given the relative rarity of Japanese whiskies from that period outside Japan, it's probably a fair price. I could be wrong, though...

Re: Similar peat level to black label and HP 12.

Good suggestions...I'd also recommend the regular Bruichladdich expressions (not Octomore, Port Charlotte, or any of the finishes), since they're much less peated than Ardbeg, Laphroaig, etc. I'd also recommend Ardmore as an example of a peated Highland malt...

Re: Suntory 1970

No worries...we now know that this was one of Suntory's regular blends, and is a commemorative bottle for the Expo in Osaka that year. Not sure what it would bring at auction. Might be worth contacting Andrew Bell at McTear's in Glasgow or Martin Green at Bonham's in Edinburgh for some ideas...

Exhibitors cannot sell anything. Only the LCBO on-site store can sell anything at the event, and I've never seen anything other than regular store prices...don't expect any specials!

Keep in mind that all three are sister brands, and the likely instructor will be a brand ambassador that represents all three. As for a taste of the 18, it'll likely depend on when that's available in Ontario...I'm not sure whether it is yet...

Re: Advice on a whisky flask

I have several flasks that I use, but my favorite is a stainless steel leather-covered one. That way, I can carry it in my briefcase without it clanking as much against other items in the case, and it's a little less obvious. I also have several small one-ounce flasks that I carry with me to festiva...

Amen to that...I was at a tasting he did for some bartenders today...he made the point about ice quite violently...and almost wiped out someone's laptop when he threw a glass of whisky and ice across the room!

Scapy (Skippy) or Cu Dhubh... But how about A'boner? What if the dog has escaped from the garden and your wife yells to you "Hurry up, get A'boner, fast!" Suggested Scapa and was shot down, and there's no way in hell I'm naming the poor pup A'boner...especially when he's getting his nuts ...
