Re: Your pictures are wanted!

Here's a pic of Nant Distillery in Tasmania. Actually, I was surprised at how good their whisky was. Still very young, but they've been maturing their first releases in tiny 20L barrels and after even 2 years, they tase very well aged, with absolutely no rough edges at all. and trust me, i'm not ex...

Killer acquisition as always, Dramtastic!

Bah, my whisky-related activities has been a little on the low-down recently due to re-enrolment at university, and also trying to save money for an overseas trip. Last thing I received was the Spirit of Unity benefit whisky. Yet to open it, though.

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.

Actually, I've noticed that the reason I haven't picked up much whisky recently is because I've been paying frequent visits to Slow Beer and Chapel St Cellars here in Melbourne, both of which have a stunning array of microbrews from around the world. Working up one fine beer gut here. :D

Yamazaki 12. Actually thought about buying the Snow Phoenix that I saw on the shelf, but then became a little nostalgic for Japan. :P

Smith's Angaston 8yo. Really good stuff! Would like to see this 8yo and their cask strength 10yo get a little more recognition beyond Australia, but the quantities released were so relatively small (especially for the 10yo). :-\

As far as bourbons go, I've always wanted a George T Stagg, never quite had the finances though. :(

Not quite last night, more like Saturday afternoon actually, I attended a session hosted by Graham Wright of The Odd Whisky Coy. It went as follows: 1) Glengoyne 10 43% 2) Auchentoshan 3 Wood 43% 3) Macallan 12yo Sherry Oak 40% 4) Talisker 1998 Distiller's Edition 45.8% 5) Riverstown Laphroaig 12yo ...

Re: What are you listening to while drinking whisky

My ultimate whisky-drinking music (especially for late at night) is a German group called Bohren & der Club of Gore. Very dark atmospheric jazz music, definitely a "film noir" feel to it. Have a listen! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcDfVsQ-qhY (audio only, no video) Wish I had a bi...

Hi there! Do you know of a Johnnie Walker Black label bottle 1 litre that was released in April 2003 where Johnnie Walker is walking in the opposite direction - from right to left ? Perhaps a mistake/error ? A collectors bottle maybe. Who knows, it may have even come from the same factory as this o...

Haven't tried the Nadurra yet, although I've indeed heard good things! I occasionally see it at various liquor stores, and it's certainly tempted me before. We'll see how much I fancy this Archive 21 when I open it up, and if I enjoy it I'll certainly give the Nadurra a go at some point. :)

More of an acquisition (well, gift) than a purchase - The Glenlivet Archive 21.

Admittedly I haven't been terribly enamoured with The Glenlivet in the past, and for the cost of a gift like that I'm hoping my opinion changes!

Nope, no lighting inside whatsoever! And being a Hibiki, it's a clear glass bottle.

Just took another peek - the condensation is always occurring on the side of the bottle closest to the door. Only this bottle though, no others. :P

Interesting suggestion, C_I! I'll have to keep an eye out to see whether the condensation is always on the same side of the bottle (I have a feeling it may be...)

Condensation

Alright, been meaning to ask this for a while now. I have a bottle of Hibiki 17. Like the rest of my bottles, it's kept in a dark cupboard away from heat and light. Yet quite often I find condensation forming on the upper part of the bottle (if you've seen the decanter shape of the Hibiki bottles yo...

I still don't have much in the way of bourbon, so I picked up a Maker's Mark today. I was under the impression that it was 45%abv... I'm sure I've seen that on a US label. The bottle I bought was 40%. Weird! Not really a purchase, but received a Smith's Angaston 8yo as an Xmas pressie from my dad. G...
