Re: Whisky storage

If you are concerned about a open bottle losing flavor from oxidation, decant the last 1/4 bottle or so into smaller bottles. I bought several "Boston round" style 4 ounce bottles on the internet for like $1.50 a piece.

aberlour a'bunadh batch 27

Just bought this yesterday. It was on sale for $46 USD. Has anyone had this batch yet and if so, what did you think of it? I'm having my first dram of it now and I can see why its called a sherry bomb! I do like it, just can't wrap my thoughts and tastes around it yet...

Re: What to buy next?

I look on Oban 14 Year Old as a whisky that's not quite what it COULD be, while the a'bunadh is, 100%, WHAT IT IS, if you get my drift. I get you. I think I'm gonna get the a'bunadh. Seems very intriguing. I had my first "true" cask strength on Thanksgiving (Scott's 1990 Bruichladidch). I...

Re: What to buy next?

Hmmm. I also noticed that they have Oban 14 and A'bunadh on sale, both for $46.99.... I have had Oban 14 before, it was excellent, but I'm not sure if I should jump in and buy the A'bunadh without trying it. Never had a cask strength sherry before. Maybe I should start a new poll on these two.

What to buy next?

Its time for a new bottle. Which one to buy next and why? They are both on sale: Aberlour 12 is $32.99 and the Glenmo 10 is $34.99

Re: What whisky for USD$50 in the US

How is glenmo 10....? I was thinking about getting a bottle for my next purchase, but of course I want to try it at a bar first. If I remember correctly, it is very sweet/fruity? I was a big Islay/peat fan when I first started drinking single malt, now I have been on a sweeter kick. I have been lovi...

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.

Balvenie 15 Single Barrel. Found it on sale for $42. Had a dram of it last night, head to head to the 12 year double wood and I think I actually prefer the 12 year DW. Especially since I got it for $10 cheaper then the 15 SB.

Re: How many open bottles do you normally have?

Nice Willie JJ, I like that. I'm starting to feel better now. I had a wee sip of Balvenie Double wood the other night and I couldn't taste anything except for the alcohol. I couldn't smell a thing from it either. Opened up my bottle of Laph 10 and could barely smell that. I think I will be a...

Re: How many open bottles do you normally have?

Laphroiag 10 Ardbeg 10 Lagavulin 16 Highland Park 12 Balvenie Doublewood 12 Black Bottle NAS And two closed bottles of Laphroaig 15. I'm very bummed because I' have had a very bad cold the last few days (maybe even swine flu, not s...

Supply of Laphroaig 15 in the US

Just curious if you guys here in the US have seen a lot of Laph 15 around still? I bought a bottle several months ago in fear that it would be all gone real soon, but I still see it around at pretty much every liquor store I go to in the Twin Cities area. Just yesterday I saw it on sale at a liquor ...

Re: Balvenie 12 double wood or Balvenie 15 single barrel?

Seems like a pretty close vote so far. I'm not sure which one to get having never tried Balvenie before. I think I'm leaning towards the double wood since that is more reliable, I would hate to get a bad batch of the 15 SB. :x

Re: HtH DM pt 4 - Islay

I voted for Ardbeg 10 only because I just got my first bottle of this last week. I have had a bottle of Laphroaig QC as well, but as of now, I would say I would reach for Ardbeg 10 first only because I'm still "exploring" it as I'm only a 1/4 of the way into the bottle. Ask me this questio...

My first bottle of Ardbeg 10. I never had even tried it before then, but I knew I would like it reading the reviews and obviously being a fan of Islay. I have to say, It is very good. Very smooth for being 46% abv.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes last week. Got some B-day $$$ from the parents and grandparents, so I'm thinking Ardbeg 10 will be a good use for that money. Re: My first Lagavulin 16 !!

I too got my first bottle of Laga 16 a few weeks ago. I have tried it before awhile back and it is just as good as I remembered it. In a way, I can't wait for it to get colder since it seems to me that drinking scotch is more enjoyable, especially Islays when it is colder outside. I love summer and ...
