Re: Willett Distillery Joins Kentucky Distillers' Associatio

Willet was in production when I visited in jully. I reviewed a 25yo rye from them lately and posted some holiday photos as well here http://danishwhiskyblog.blogspot.dk/search/label/Willet I was told they had been sourcing casks as well as ghost distilling. The distillery is next door neighbour to H...

Re: Scotch versus Whiskey and Bourbon

Initially I had it the same way. I think the reason is the intensity of the flavours of bourbons. It's comparable to younger peaty malts I found as I developed my palate - a lot of hard training...:-) I started to be able to discover the underlaying tastes of bourbons. So I needed a bit of practise....

It depends about what the distillery releases as well Some distilleries you can't get or their releases is fairly limited, anything interesting OB is usually very experience Some distilleries like Amrut and Bladnoch have a serious affordable line of OB while others, like Highland Park just put out w...

Re: Distillery Only Bottles...

Bottle from a cask Best ones I had was Glenmorangie and Old Pulteney, they were outstanding They tend to be good quality single cask bottlings but on the expensive side sometimes. The last one I bought was a 15yo'isg Glen Moray at 45£ish which was both good whisky and a decent price! afaik Glenmoran...

Re: Vertical tasting?

I would go for a distillery where you can get some independent single cask bottlings. These always put a perspective into a vertical, and tend to make the tasting more varied I don't know what's availbale in shops around, but I would do some research and see what's available Other than the mentioned...

Edinburgh : as mentioned Royal Mile Whiskies and Cadenheads. Re: Corks and Whisky

Corks are not really suitable for whisky, the reason they are used are just another proof that marketing is more important than quality I find screwcaps a lot better. They have quality differences, but I particular like the way its done in Japan. Giving the bottle a cheap look and not the posh look ...

Re: Question about "marrying" Single Malt Whiskys:

Standard OB is usual batches of several thousands bottlings. For this hundreds of casks can be used For single malt whisky these casks are from the same distillery, for blends the casks will be from different ones These casks are vatted together and left in a tank (usually) for a period to "mar...

Re: Which whisky is the most Peated?

Wel, as Gordon pointed out a couple of years ago, these numbers can be a bit arbitrary. As peat diminishes with age, the true way to find out which whisky is the most peaty is to go by taste judgement, and that is very subjective Personally I find the Edradour peated, Ballechin to be the most peated...

I find the Brora's distilled early - mid 70's my preference. A bit more peaty. A H2H of 2002, 2007 and 2009 I thought the 2002 was far superior

The "quality" of the family casks bottlings do vary, I havent been that impressed with the "very few" I tried, I actually found the 40yo OB better. It's probably half price so you gotta see what you get for you $$ as well The Banff sounds exciting and would be my choice if I had ...
